New guy checking in

I have been lounging around out here for a while. I have a 94 ZX11D. Got it for a deal, but needs a little work; 30K miles, all original except the rigged exhaust. Trans acts strange intermittently.

To get right to it, I have read about the 4 into 1 exhaust, zzr1200, modified Hayabusa, I am thinking of going with the 4 into 1. Is a jet kit needed? Any popular opinions?

About the trans, sometimes it doesnt want to go into any gear whatsoever, after being stopped for a while (gas stop, try to leave, ???) Anyone ever heard of this?

I have chosen to restore this bike. Rather than tear it into 1000 peices, I will do it in sections. As I go along, I will take pictures and post them as an attempt to show others what to expect. The parts I am unfamiliar with are the engine and trans rebuild. I consider myself a better than average mechanic and very mechanically inclined. Even still, there is alot I do not know regarding motorcycle drivetrains. I figure there is no better way to learn.

Welcome, can't wait to see pics of your project.

Sorry, didn't respond sooner, but I don't really have great suggestions for the shifting issue. My thought is bent shift fork or possibly the spring that pushes the fork into place. I really doubt actual gear issues, but could be wrong.

I have installed the Factory Pro shift detent kit on mine, and do like the crispness of the shifting now. It wasn't bad before, but I could catch neutral from first and now that never happens. Part of my problem is probably my size 14 clod-hoppers, but can't do much about that-

Also, I had put on a set of Raask rear-sets and the linkage angles caused some shifting issues. Ended up taking them back off because of that and the rear brake was affected as well. You could just have a linkage issue, but the stock linkage is pretty bullet proof and I figure you would have seen that.

Anyhow- Good luck and post pics!

Thanks for the advise rnoliver; bye the way, my bike looks exactly like yours. I also have large feet (13). I didn't think it would be the actual gears themselves, but I am just unsure of what it could be. I have lot of mechanical experience with cars, I have built engines and restored vehicles (1971 Trans Am most recently) but never a motorcycle. This will be my first.
