Polarity on Ignition Coils?

What's + and - on the coils? I have a D model and the terminals are marked as black and green. I'm thinking black is probably negative, but what makes it confusing is that one of the negative wires (going to ignition box) is also green. So what's what?

As far as I'm concerned, polarity is not important on the coils. It is just like a bulb; invert + and - and the bulb will still light up.

Claude is correct as coils don't really have polarity. But you mention Black and Green wires, these sound like the switched wire to each coil. Each coil has a red wire, which from the schematic (hopefully the details are good enough) should have voltage (be positive), the Black wire is to the Left coil and the Green wire is to the Right coil. These go to the Igniter and are the triggered leads that fire the coils by completing the circuit to 0 volts (Negative side of the battery). Due to the nature of transistors switching the 0 volts side of the circuit is quite common.

Hopefully I haven't just created more confusion. Essentially each coil should have one Red and one Black (Left) or Green (right) wire. It shouldn't matter which terminal on the coil has which wire. Mine have always had the red wire on the bottom terminals (one closest to the engine when the coil is mounted).
