I got ambitious this spring and started a process that actually turned out a lot simpler than I thought. I didn't want to spend very much money on exhaust, but the stock is obviously too restrictive, heavy and quiet. Also I wanted a dual outlet to keep it symmetrical and aesthetic. I then noticed how you can modify/gut a hayabusa muffler pretty easy and end up with a lighter polished aluminum can. Another benifit, most people who buy a busa put aftermarket exhaust right on anyway leaving a pretty cheap market for take-off mufflers.
I picked up a pair for $45, and a zzr1200 pipe to get dual outlets exhaust on ebay. Then I fabbed a flange for the mufflers, gutted and shortened the mufflers and put in my own one baffle system guts for it. Hayabusa mufflers do bolt up to the Ninja with their stock tabs, I just had to cut a small section out of it. The mid-pipes were MUCH easier than I anticipated. They are made out of 1.75in pipe, with a slightly enlarged end for a slip on fit done on a pipe bender. After a few pipe bends later I welded up the midpipes and fabrication was done. Just got them back from the ceramic coater, and it turned much better than I thought.
Performance wise they did help pick up in the top end with much less restriction, but a 3+ timing advance helped too!
Here are the pictures, and I will try and get a youtube video up with a link. Let me know what you think. If you want any more details let me know and I can give any help you need.
