On the Road again!
The baby is FINALLY back up & running after over 3 yrs! Engine swap went OK but the carbs drove me nuts . Ended up letting a shop do them & he had to do them twice. I've been riding the wife's EX500 over the last 1 1/2 & when I jumped on mine didn't realize how far a reach to the bars I had on the 11. Anybody know where I can get some bar risers? What's a good height for sport touring? (I'm 5'8"). Maybe a taller windscreen also. As always Thanks in advance for the help. You guys input when I swapped the motor was invaluable.

Genmar risers. www.zianet.com/genmar They go for around $100 Or if you want to get a little more spendy, LSL kit. www.spieglerusa.com LSLs sell for around $300 Or if you really want to drop some major buck$, Helibars. Not sure of their availability, but they are over $400 new.

As for screen, a very goo choice is Zero Gravity double bubble.
Helibars are discontinued since a while now so your only option is used ones. Genmar works pretty well and are inexpensive.

Thanks guys. I used to think the reach was ok when I had a 70 mi. commute to work. I think I want to have the option to get out of the elements without laying on the tank. Does the taller screen with the upswept lip on it stop the helmet buffeting?

Yeah, it has the stock exhaust in that picture. I'm in the middle of making some changes and will be posting new pics soon (probably 3 weeks), but I can take a photo of the Zero Gravity windscreen. I'll do that and post it tonight when I get home.
BTW, probably going to be willing to part with the stock exhaust if any one is interested.

Here is a photo of the Zero Gravity Sport Touring screen.
You'll have to pardon all of the bugs, I have a fair amount of farm country to ride through and dusk is a horrible time for bugs. I didn't get a chance to clean her up before I had to take her apart.
Personally, I like the looks of this better than the double bubble look.
I'll post better photos on all the mods when I get things done.

No wonder you went for the taller screen. You'd be having bugs for dinner if you didn't! I have a similar prob here. Even with a full face helmet you have to leave the visor open to let some air in when it's over 100 degrees

rnoliver, did you ever got the chance to compare your ST screen to a DB? Not for the look but the efficiency?

Claude, I haven't ridden a ZX11 with a double bubble screen, so no. From ZG's web site I got the impression that the sport touring would raise the air impact level higher than the DB, although looking back they don't actually say that. And as far as not using the Sport Touring on the track, let's just say that me in a full tuck looks like a St Bernard humping a Dachshund so no screen will be too tall.
I take it you've tried the DB and like them? It would be neat to compare. Let's see, if we met in Detroit.....
Seriously, though, anyone tried both?

I've been riding a DB on my ZX11C for years and I like it. However, I should begin to ride a D model soon and I installed a DB on it. From previous pictures, I thought the DB was quite higher on a D than what I just installed on mine. Getting older year after year, comfort keep on getting higher on my priority list and if I could be sure a ST is better than a DB, I would get one instead. Guess I'll begin to ride my D (probably in august) with a DB and I'll see from there...

I may be interested in your stock exhaust if it is in mint shape.

Man...I took the missus' 500R out for some excersize (She's not licensed yet) after being on my 11 for a couple weeks & I felt like "the human sail" I was so upright in the saddle. Got back on mine & thought I was layin' on the tank! The Genmars will be ordered post haste. My question is... what's the double bubble windscreen designed to do besides look different? Is it just a style issue? It's hard to tell from the Zero Gravity site. Hey Claude. What is it about the DB you like?

It redirects the air so you don't get buffeted as much at high speeds. This is particularly nice if you have a helmet with crap for aerodynamics like most Icon's.

Is it any taller than the stock screen? My helmet is a Walmart Bell that's not the quitetest or best vented in the world (what should I expect for 65 bucks!) & gets buffeted bad with my stock screen unless I lay on the tank. That might be a good position for the track but not so much for droning down the freeway & I'm gettin' tooo old for staying cranked down like that for long.

It's a little taller, but you'd probably notice a bigger difference getting a helmet that isn't a piece of crap. Seriously, this is your head we're talking about protecting. I'm not one of those primadonna's who'll say you need an $800 Suomy either, just spend over $100 on a decent Scorpion or HJC and you'll forget all about the windshield for awhile.

I just started another thread on helmets. I actually bought the thing on my way to buy the bike. I hadn't had a bike for a few years & my old 400 buck Scnell didn't fit anymore (bald head now). It was supposed to be temporary. That was almost 5 years ago!
