throttle cable removal from carbs

Anybody have any pointers on removing the throttle cables from the carbs? Previously I've not removed them as i did not want to mess w/them. But now, to get everything cleaned up I think I will.

Remove the cables from the throttle grip first to gain the needed cable slack.

I agree with ross, i have had mine off several times and i always take the cables off the throttle tube on the handle first which will give you the needed slack. then just you can manually turn the throttle plate assembly by hand and remove the cable ends. hope this helps

Here are some detailed instructions from my experience of taken off the carbs at least 27 (no exaggeration!) times in the last three months.

1. Under the throttle handlebar locate the throttle cable and tighten the lock screw and the cable screw.
2. After removing the tank, airbox, etc. locate the two throttle cables and choke cable adjustment/slack screws that should be located above the Valve cover near the Ram Air tubes. Adjust the lock/cable-sleeve screws/tighten them. The tightening actually makes the cable sleeves shorter therefore allowing more play at the ends of the cable on the throttle.
3. Locate the end of the throttle cable furthest from the engine. The end in cable sleeve is encased in a metal which fits into a metal holder attached to the carb itself at the top of the carb (not the throttle at the bottom). There should be enough play in the cable to pull up with slight force and pull the cable out of the metal holder through a slit in the side.
4. Detach cable on bottom directly at throttle mechanism.
5. Repeat step 3 for throttle cable closest to engine.
6. Repeat step 2,3 for choke.

Installation is in the reverse order. It might be too late for you but maybe others have the same question and can refer to this.
