Stupid ? about sprocket removal

I'm replacing chain and sprockets on a '91 11 and can't get the countershaft sprocket nut to break loose. Before I end up really breaking something I want to verify it has normal, right-hand threads, correct?

Been too many years since I've had to remove one. I looked in a service manual I downloaded (for the D models) and it just shows to use the rod in the hole, torque is a hefty 94lbs. My air impact won't budge it, nor can I with a 24" breaker bar; in 1st gear, rear brake fully applied. Lock washer is mangled, but doesn't appear to be hanging it up.

Thanks in advance!!
Jeff

Yes, normal threads. You need a HD impact driver. You could also put the front wheel against a wall and slide a long pipe over a ratchet driver.

A new $80 impact wrench from Harbor Freight ( 625 lbs torque) and it came right off.

there will be those that go "OMG"...put a little heat from a handheld torch on it. I have done several this way...and a standard breaker bar will get it...

rode mine over to a local multibrand bike dealer. They loosened it for me for 20 bucks. Instead of gorilla tite, they just tightened it with a ratchet so I could ridde home. i think it was fair.

I had to use a 1" drive impact with over 150psi of air to get mine loose. A 1/2' drive with 100 psi wouldn't budge it. I was a little concerned about heating it up and fooking up the countershaft seal.
