IMHO...
Leave the stunts and the excessive speed for the track. I run hot a lot, especially at night. And I would lie if I said I haven't popped it up a couple times... but we get enough crap just looking fast. Whenever someone in my family sees a guy wheelie on the freeway, I always get chewed out cause I'm "one of them!"
Private land, private road, track, in the middle of BFE... OK! But try not to get yourself killed where everyone can see you.
Here's a video I thought was kind of funny. There are many many more I'm sure you've all seen of some guy eating it. Oh, and if you ever pull a wheelie with your woman on the back, you're gay. Don't even think about it.

I ride an '06 ZX10R.
My preferred wheelie option is to clutch her up in 2nd or 3rd. I adjust my seating position slightly rearward and make myself comfortable, taking a tight grip with my knees. Next I place my right foot in a comfortable position over the brake and the left foot with easy access to the gear shift lever. Ignoring the tacho I speed the bike up to where I feel the engine come on the cam - smooth out. With a flick of the clutch and a slight handful more revs the front comes up quickly to balance point and is quite easy to maintain there with very minor throttle adjustments. When I have run out of road or balls (coppers have no appreciation for a good wheelie) I try to bring it back down under power for a relatively smooth landing.
Work up easy on the clutch and throttle application to get used to the feeling. I enjoy the odd power wheelie but usually dont bother to bring them up to balance point. I haven't tried stand up wheelies on the 10 but felt uncomfortable when I tried them on my last bike.
I learnt the basics of wheel standing a street bike on an '87 CBR1000F, needless to say the 10 requires a little less effort. I have also ridden freestyle BMX for the last 15 years so I guess I have a handy head start with being comfortable on one wheel. As mentioned in earlier threads, being comfortable on the balance is definitely a must.

wheelies
All of you guy's are giving this Rookie bad advice. I've been wheeling for 10 years and the advice you're giving is going to get someone hurt or killed!!!!!!!! If you want to learn how to wheelie, first of all find a spot off from everyone else and practice!!!!!!!! Here's a little advice, leave first gear alone!!!!! that's how most people end up flipping their bikes. On the 10 all you have to do is come out of first gear get up to speed then shift up to second, once you're at about 6000 rpms or 50 to 55 mph let the front end dip then smoothly roll on the throttle when the bike is coming out of the dip. I guarantee you it will come up with ease. I personally like 3rd and 4th gear wheelies on the 10. The way this is done, simply get up to about 65 to 75 mph and dump the clutch while you roll on the throttle at the same time, she will come up with ease. The 10 is the most powerful liter bike out there guys!!!!!!! Oh yeah check out my motorcycle clubs website @ www.twistedmcc.com.

I didn't want to see this die yet considering Im still not quite getting the trick of it yet plus Im scared to go hard on the throttle without my no cut sliders that I've been waiting patiently for from the dealer.Plus my crappy Ohlins steering stabilizer doesn't do much to help my handle bars from rattling around.

i haven't been unlucky enough to test out my frame sliders yet. but i'm thinking . if you go over backwards doing a wheelie, frame sliders aren't going to help a whole lot. you got our support you just got to keep on trying and practicing.

find an empty parking lot and try every possible way over and over and over. you will get comfortable and once you do watch out where u do them on the streets. cops dont like wheelies.

I know that much but when the bike comes down hard and the stabilizer doesn't do its job the handle bars move around a bit and I have a feeling it'll be on its side if I can't control it.....Which would be where the sliders come in.I Was on the road today all by myself today And in first gear at 4grand I rev'd it and popped the clutch and came up real quick.Wow it was a bit scary but it gives me a better idea of what it feels like to be a few feet in the air.I've done it before but never came up that high.

hey seth...if u brought the bike to 7 or 8 grand and cracked it, and were comfortable with that...try doing the same, but let off the throttle at 7 or 8 grand .when the nose dips.. grab a handfull of throttle and u will lift the front wheel easily.......when you let off the throttle..start by giving a little gas at a time untill you feel how much it takes to lift the front wheel.....if all you want to do is wheelies and get real good at them...drop a tooth in the front and go up in the rear..this will make it so you will be able to wheelie at a slower speed and will definataly make it come up alot easyier......hope this helps a little.......

just thought u should know......the NO CUT sliders are pretty much useless unless ur bike falls over on some grass.......if they are not cut frame sliders they are basically bolted on with a 10 mm bolt(maybe smaller) that will brake off as soon as they hit the pavement.....at any speed .if you want to be entirely safe buy a big ugly cage.....but u will sacrafice looks

buy a 2 fiddy and play with that for a while or any type of dirt bike, go practice in a car park then try on your 10....... sheeeet man if you can't get it up with the 10 you are gonna make a mess of it when u do get it up, you really need to practice on a cheap shitty bike first.
Hell, go mono a scooter first..... thats fun and slow, even a push bike until you get the balance

No disrespect to your quote. But seth, the first time you ever feel comfortable on your bike or not scared on it is when you are going to wreck. Be very careful and most of all respect that thing under your balls. It can and will kill you if you let it.

I'm a newbie here but my first bike was a new 05 Busa.I gave up on wheelies.I love to see my buddies doing them but there just not for me.After just 3 months of riding I was like you trying to find out how to do a wheelie. Then I got comfortable bringing up the front. So then I got cocky and tried to carry it on out.And then, yep it happened. It came right on over.So after a month of not being able to hold my newborn,3 weeks of not being able to bathe myself,$10 grand worth of bills.I have a new respect for these machines and there power. Not trying to scare you but it is reality and not a nintendo game.So like many others have said.Find a cheaper and slower machine instead of a $10,000 bike.Good luck man.

I agree with that comment. My 14grand bike isn't the best bike to be using to practice this on.I can imagine what an idiot I'd feel like if I saw it lying on the ground.

hey Seth the best hway to sum it up is like buying a bike. You can reveiw as many reviews and article's as you like but you wont know what you like until you try it.
Wheeliing is the same you just need to feel it and make sure you are comfortable with what works for you. Stay in first gear and keep it up before moving to second and beyond.
If you get bored of 150km+ wheelies goodluck to ya

Mate by the sounds of it you dont know your 10 well enough to be doing wheelies on it. Learn to master the actual riding of your bike and wheelies will come, you will get the idea of exact powerband points when it starts jumping up as you come out of corners and what not.
Just take it easy and dont waste your time thinking about how to wheelie cause its only going to end in disaster. I have been riding 2 years nearly and just binned my 3rd bike (2006 zx10) I have never asked or read anything on how to do wheelies yet I learned to wheelie my 04 r6 for kilometres at a time with someone on the back even. I just took it slow and learned the bikes powerband upside down before I tried them.
Anyway, my point is take it slow and learn to love your bike for what its designed for before you break it :)
Oh and about your damper, I never once got headshake on my stock damper. Is it possible its adjusted the wrong way? Maybe you should take it into kawasaki and have them take a peek at it. They arent the best dampers you can buy but they do the job, kawasaki wouldnt put them on there for nothing.

No the damper sucks and Im not the only one who thinks that, just ask anyone with an 06-07.I just installed my Kenny Roberts no cut sliders last night and will have a little more confidence with them on though. You're right about learning the bike first. The previous 04-05 generation was made different,it would wheelie all the damn time which made the kawasaki guys pay more attention to keeping the front end down on the 06 by adding more weight to the flywheel which makes it a little harder to do wheelies.I think Im just scared to bring the front up high which is the real problem.I watched a video on youtube and this guy said try with a bicycle first and if you can master that you'll find the balance point on your bike.
