2006 zx10r blown motor

So its a nice day in washington dc. Im headed to the bike spot, and run into a 06'gsxr750. I crush him pretty bad on the straight away, but in the turn he got the best of me. Im thinking I am going to get you back later, anyways, i pull up to the stop sign in front of some sexy ladies, and right when i go to grab the front brakes for a stoppie, my motor starts making a knocking noise. everyone notices it. i take it to the parking lot, and all eyes are on me because im the only one with a zx10 that sounds like a broken Ducati! it sounded horrible. Loud knocking sound, like theres a midget in the engine banging it with a tiny hammer. I am so blown. I dont have full coverage. I will NEVER pull an insurance scam. Im laid off and on unemployment, and i owe a few grand more until i can get the tittle. Its not really hit me yet how bad this really is. I dont know what to do. I hate to say it, but im thinking about the HONDA. I have alt of miles, ( 35,000). I ride alot. I need something thats not gonna break down. My friend has a 93' cbr600f2, and its been running fine, with no problems. maybe im just overreacting. I dont drink, but i will tonite!

Bummer man. Hope everything works out for ya. I was in a similiar situation when my motor threw 2 valves. That was my only transportation at the time. But the dealership and warranty hooked me up. Good luck man.

Thats what you need to do is visit a couple of Kawi dealers and find one that is hungry. If there sitting around on there thumbs they might be interested in trying to get it warrantied for you. If not the cheapest way is to do it your self. No better time to get intimate with your bike than know.

So after I wrote this I had to drive my bike home. I had to take it on the highway for about 20 miles. After about 3 miles the noise stopped and the bike is running fine. It's almost like nothing happened. The knocking is gone an d it even starts up better than it did before. I know that it did fix itself, but it sure seems so. It's running now like there was never a problem. Is this normal? Does the knocking always go away, and will it suprise me one day and just completly break down? I had a 2 year warranty that was up in 08. I had a friend with a similar problem with a gixxer1000, but the warranty was still valid. The most I have done internally to an engine has been change the valve gasket, stator removal( easy stuff). Have any Of you had to fix your motor for a similar problem? Is it something that will take me a few days in my garage to do? Or is it something that I definetly want an expert working on? I have the time to do it , just don't know if it is something that I don't want to mess with.

Have you ever adjusted your valves before? If you have 35,000 miles they are most likely out of spec. Intervals for checks/ adjustments are about 15,000 miles I believe. The knocking could be the cct, sometimes the automatic ones take a little bit to adjust. I had this problem on my old kawi fourwheeler.

Help with ZX-10

Let me know what you are going to do I might be able to help you out. I own a 07 zx-10r and live in the metro D.C. area. The dealer might be able to help you out, also I own a kendon trailer and would be willing to help you transport the bike.

I have never gotten a valve adjustment. When the bike had about 18,000 miles on it, the fuel injectors failed me. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it because of the warranty. I asked them about adjusting the valves, and they told me that everything was fine. I had the money then, but i definetly dont have it now. Its really wiered tho, the knocking just went away. I was being gentle with it since it happened, but today i was running it kinda hard, for about 20minutes. Did some wheelies, and took it up to 150mph. still no problems. I dont get it. Thanks for the offer of help vuzikis. I will let you know whats up.

I just bought one of these bikes with a blown engine. #1 rod was bad and the intake valve retainers were all broken. Supposedly the previous owner was notorious for wheelies and revving the bike without load on it. Sent crank to Falicon, rebuilt the head, had to replace the oil pump, strainer, rod, and she is back together. Just dynoed it last night and it made 169.7hp.

I would drain your oil and see if you see any copper flakes in it. If you do you have some serious work ahead of you.

Worst thing you can do to an engine. You see these idiots all the time thinks its real cool to rev the engine with the clutch pulled in or the bike out of gear. Even when the ignition or injectors have a rev limiter on them, you can rev the whole drive train past its limit by the cyclic force that continues after you let off the gas. You can float valves into pistons (most common prob) and other real smart consequences can occur.

Thanks for the advice fellas. The bike is fine. It was the cam chain tensioner. It adjusts to stretching automaticly, and it was just doing that at the moment. There was no metal in the oil either. I have to get those valves adjusted though. I actually considered parting out the bike, to get a honda, ( what the hell was i thinking!). i am now gonna stick with Kawasaki forever!!!!! thanks again guys!

SOOOO you do wheelies, stoppies, run 150mph on public roads, never adjusted your valves, unemployed, and now your bike is blowing up. You say you want help? WHY?..... Sometimes things have a way of slowing you down for a reason... Esieast way to see if your engine is hurt. Cut the oil filter apart, and go through the fiber. If you have metal...bad news. If not your good to go.

Wow. Dont know what sparked the attitude, in the first half of that comment. This is a motorcycle forum. I had an issue with my engine, and asked if anyone had any opinions on what the problem was. That is WHY i wanted help. I would rather ask people on the forum first, before i spend money in the shop. I dont know what is soooo wrong with that. Sorry if i offended you some how bluedevil. Didnt mean to ruin your day. Thanks for all the advice everyone. Happy Holidays!

Well honestly look at your post. Hey guys I abuse my bike, and now it's going to blow up. I have no money to fix it.
I honestly woder why...
Then I tell you what to look for....
Now you want me to feel sorry for you....
Now you want sympathy from the forum....
You posted on a public forum....
Common sense goes a long way....
Good luck

I made this thread to find out if anyone had expirenced what i did with my 10. I wanted to know if there was a solution for my problem. Just like most threads on this forum asking for help, So that should answer your question on why i want help, Obviously. I am looking for no sympathy from anybody. I just dont know where your attitude came from. Im just a man trying to get some help with my bike. Thats all.

btw, the only abuse i have done to my bike has been not adjusting the valves

i agree with this guy there are alot of people who know nothing about bikes and choose to own them and "maintain them" themselves but most people think i'm an asshole too
