"NEW" 2006 zx10! new ninja owner...have leaky forks, questions for the vets!

hey everyone! i just got a new solar yellow 06 zx10! however the forks are leaking like a sieve :-( (covered the rotor/caliper)

how much does it usually cost to get the seals replaced in the forks? i will probably need new pads in front as well. i am a new member in the forum and a new zx10 owner! i came off a heavily modded sv1000s and the sv = zx10 up to 5500 rpm

i cant get over the acceleration this bike is capable of!

well i hope you guys have an idea of how much it runs to get that done! take it easy!

If you take it to a local dealer and have it done your probably looking at @ $250 to $300. If you can find a competent mechanic in your area it will be half that price. The seals and dust boots are @ $75 , the rest is labor. BTW , welcome to the forums!

i just called...a place can get me in today.

for parts it was like 16 per fork and the brakes were 35 for the front

labor was like 245 or so...and im also going to get new rear pads as well (they are low) and so its the cost of pads (30ish?) and 40ish for labor on those...i can easily do them myself i just dont have time and i just want it all done asap. once the forks are done i shouldnt have to worry about it anymore...(at least not for awhile)

is there anything else i should check?

*note* all this place does is kawasaki and artic cat. its howell powersports (aka howell cycle, in howell mi)

just curious.... you did say "new"... if this is a new bike... what about a warranty?
i mean it sounds like ya haven't had the bike for long... are you doing wheelies and such to where the damage can be expected?
or is this just random?

this shouldn't just happen with a new bike like that...

started right up! there is only one scratch on the entire thing and even then he just put a sticker over it! i dont even care...

here is what it needs:

oil change
forks fixed
new brakes front and rear (just to keep things even, its the forks fault for the front)
new tires (back is alright, front is like 40%)

thats it...

here is what i got...tell me what you think!

if I was u, i'd take the forks off yerself.. saving mucho shop time... for the price of a front stand on ebay, you can still save money overall, then you'd have a front stand, and you might as well get a rear one too... why pay a grease monkey for work you can easily do right ?

. I think that owning a bike and becoming a motorcyclist makes you a mechanic as well by default... like it or not.

i had one fork seal busted. the shop told me that I could have both fixed for $150, and that did not include the price of the seals. I think that the seals are $8 a piece or something.

your former owner either was a "hard lander" from wheelies or he strapped the bike down too tight in front while trailering and blew out a fork seal.

easily fixed though. Bike looks real clean in the slideshow.

I spent between 150-175 to get my fork seal replaced. The gaot damn part was like 12-15 bucks if that.. but, they bust you over the head with labor.
I busted mine doing a damn wheelie came down to hard.

I recently had mine seals replaced by a shop in town. It was all under warranty other than the fork oil. I think it was like $17 or something. Problem i have now is the top side is leaking. Theres a little o-ring under your aluminum shock adjustment nut. I called the dealer he said it was probably cut when they tightened it down. Ive got oil all over my bars and windscreen and display.
