inexpensive do it yourself mods
So following the success of kdankenb's do it yourself smog block off, i'm hooked. Are there any other mods that can be done to save weight, increase performance, or otherwise tweak the bike that cost less then 20 bucks, that you can do yourself? throw anything at me.

1/5th throttle conversion- 25$, remove secondaries-free, -1+2 $40... if you already have a 520 chain. Remove exhaust butterfly valve--free, remove butterfly valve cable and housing---free

Cable removal won't trigger FI light, however The housing just will trigger the light. There is a "plug" that can be plugged in place of the housing to trick the ECU that the that its still plugged in.

Where can you find said plug?

Ok im REALLY interested in the secondaries removal. I was wondering about those... i remember having my old 6RR apart, twisting the throttle with the airbox off, and watching the throttle bodies move... i was wondering why i couldnt do that with my zx10... however, the disclaimer is really turning me off to it... i have a BMC standard filter, a muffler that bolts directly to the headers, and a very rich PC3 map to make it all run smoothly. Do you think this mod would really mess all that up?

Not at all, the only thing you may notice is a slight engine lag upon sharp twist of the throttle.... that lag is very short but engine picks up real quick. Keep reading through that section and you will find many many happy riders.

the lag will be due to the lower air preasure, but it'll gain top end through the higher air flow, right?

The only lag you should come upon is an initial throttle turn while in neutral, thats the only time I have had the lag. While on he road I have not heard the lag at all. Secondaries out is more for the low end, it allows more air to get into the engine at lower RPMs. You won't see any difference at top end because when your at the top the valves are completely open anyway.

this sounds easy enough... its kinda like having mechanical venturies, like a keihin flat slide... you'll need more throttle control to be smooth, shouldn't really harm anything

Why wait, tank has a vacuum seal, even if the tank is completely full it wont leak, however its not the tank you got to worry about its the hose. Hope you like the mod, please let me know what you think. Also if you could put what you think about it in the thread I sent you that has the directions.

Another cheap mod, chop your stock cans.... or aftermarket cans for that matter. I have an 05 and chopped about 8.5 inches off stock can. I know of a few that have taken a few off the 06-07 model as well.
