zx10r 06 07 non catalized mid-pipe
Hi
I was wondering if someone has ever tested the non catalized mid pipe to remove the catalytic converter.
Are the results good ?

(On the left you can have the pic of the full exhaust detailed.)
I'd like to buy one because I know the cat. will be too hot for my race fairings, my friend experienced it
Thanx for the answers.
Remy

And does it make much more noise ?
Does the engine work better or is it hard to feel ?
Thanx

Gutted CAT
Hi Guys,
I have a '07 10R and I gutted the cat. I don't have any pictures, but it's fairly simple. Hammer, wood stick to hammer it though, and drill if you need to break it up. The stock pipe is much heavier than an aftermarket though, even after the internals are cleaned up.
Performance wise I think it works exactly like an aftermarket except for the weight. There is more flow and fast response for RPM. I also unhooked the butterflies and did the stock pipe mod (A&R baffles) at the same time. Works great but it is louder. If you have police problems then I would keep the butterflies in..so it will tone down when you don't rev.

I Have Been Dyno Running My Bike All Day. Here Is What I Have Come To. Inital Run 150.24hp Stock Then I Removed The Smog System And Gutted The Cats And It Made 154.49hp Nice Increase The Torque Also Went Up About 1.8 I Also Dynod The Bike With The Exhaust Butterfly Valve Full Open And With It Left Alone( Meaning How The Bike Comes Stock) The Bike Made 2 Hp Less With It Wide Open... So If You Leave It Alone You Will Not Lose Any Power, If However You Leave It Wide Open By Dissconnecting It, You Will Lose Hp And Torque In The Mid Range. I Guess That Is Why Kawasaki Put It There. Tomorrow I Will Start Tunning The Bike And Will Post My Results.

It Also Backfires Alot More Around 2 Grand, But My Air Fuel Ratio Is Good. I Called Kawi Today And They Told Me The Stock Injectors Dump More Fuel When You Are At Low Rpm That Does Not Get Burned So The Cats Can Cool Off, But When You Remove Them You End Up With A Little Backfire.

i bought a used cat mid-pipe off ebay. $41 just as a project. cant say theres much restriction with the cat in, so im sceptical to believe itll have much of a difference. we'll see.

i just fitted my gutted cat this morning. i didnt go for a hard test, just the neigbourhood and motorway for a bit, theres possibly a very small difference in performance that i found.(hard to tell with the performance thats already there!) a very very slight burble on decel. actually only once did i experience this. again maybe only a very slight increase in noise (im running carbon trc yoshi bolt ons and they seem to absorb some sound) a dyno run would be best, i know!.my question i have os,how is this going to effect my valve life.i cant imagine there being a whole lot of back pressure from the cat, id think theres very little restriction there. id rather leave the cat in and know im not burning valves. anyone got any facts/thoughts on this?

I Have Worked In The Auto World For Over 15 Years And They Said A Cat If It Working Right Will Not Take Or Give And Horsepower It Should Not Burn Valves Or Change Anything Inside The Motor Its Job Is To Burn The Exhaust For Emissions Only But What I Have Seen Is That If The Cat Is Not Working Right They Will Rob Power And Change They Hole Way A Vehicle Runs This Is True On All Types Of Motors Cars Bikes And Trucks Also If They Are Not Working Right They Will Cause Engine Damage I Have Removed Many Cats On Cars And Trucks And Never Had A Engine Problem Because Of It

so to reiterate, gutting the cat (assuming the cat doesnt effect back pressure) wont damage(burn) my engines valves due to less back pressure because really there isnt any back pressure because the cats are not retrictive enough to cause this????

Catyletic converters certainly do cause some back pressure (thats why we want to remove em ya think!) And if you run race, avgas or trick with lead in it you will melt the cat and then your screwed. If you gut it it will have no effect on your valves. Its purpose is to be hot so when the unburt gas hits it it will help burn it up. I for one do not want that heat (and weight) sitting under my bike. I will be doing a full system change out. What do you guys like for a side pipe on an 06?
