Throttle side is a larger diameter than the clutch side. You would be surprised at how many people think they've got the wrong ones because they tried to put the left on the right and the right on the left.

I've read a few different methods on actually replacing the grips. Just curious how you guys did it. I don't want to mess anything up, my bike is my pride and joy

They don't come off easy, cutting them off with a razor works best. I spent about 15 minutes gradually pulling mine off because I wanted to keep the OEM ones in tact. The best way I've found to get the new ones on is hairspray (old bicycle trick). Spray it into the grip and get it even inside with your finger, let the excess drain out and slide them on. They go on slippery but it dries sticky, the perfect medium.

Like I said, you would be surprised. I was at a party once and the guy that lived there swore up and down that he had gotten the wrong size grips twice. I walked out to his garage and had them on in less than five minutes. The dude turned as red as firetruck and I just tried hard not to laugh.

So do I have to worry about anything on the throttle side?

yeah its a bit harder, especially if your throttle has play. otherwise no... let me let you in on a little secret: women's hair spray. Spray that on the inside of the grip LIBERALLY. (make sure its like, an aerosol like hairspray) and it slips right on. After a few min, it dries and doesnt budge. i've replaced grips 4 times and i did that the last time, worked like a charm.

So what's under the throttle grip that allows it to twist? If I decide to cut the old throttle grip off, do I have to be extra cautious not to cut into anything else?

Thanks for the replies. I know I probably sound stupid, but I just don't want to screw anything up.

The throttle is just a sleeve that fits over the bar, it covers as much as the grip. I didn't see anything to be concerned about when I had my grips off. With a sharp razor knife and starting at the flange pulling them up as you go, you should be able to cut them off without scoring anything underneath. In fact, you shouldn't even have to cut them all the way, just get it started and they should tear and slide off pretty easily.

Exactly the reply I was looking for, thanks JBear. By the way, where in NE are you from? I'm down in CT.
