my first crack at suspension tuning
Well after reading beanbaxter's suspension FAQ over in the technical thread several times, and thinking and theorizing about suspension for a while I finally took my 10R out to my old junior high school, where there is an old service road thats freshly paved around back, at 1 AM this morning. I did the same road repeatedly so the results would be most noticeable. What It came down to for me, (and this is from stock settings) was + 1 hardness per fork in the front, and +5 hardness on the rear shock. ("1" in the front is a click, about a half a turn, and in the rear there are no clicks so "1" means a half turn) I found I couldnt make the front any stiffer; i took a turn too wide and almost flew off the road. It locks up with a stiff front end and doesnt let me turn... However, the more i stiffened the rear the more i liked it. Hell, I woulda gone stiffer but i already feel every tiny bump and rock I go over... did any one else mess with their suspension? have similar results? or does this at least sound like a good adjustment? any feedback appreciated (AHEM spiffyaid) If it helps any, my tires are both pilot power 2ct, the front is about 2k miles old the rear is about 30 miles old (just put it on the other night) and i weigh 175 pounds, and the bike is about 20 pounds lighter than stock due to exhaust mods. what do you all think?
