what kind of paper? what kind of pencils. i draw a little and use some thicker cardstock and some cheap, off-the-wal-mart-shelf crayola's and can't come close to that effect. is it just practice then or what?

I use illustration boards.Prismacolor pencils are what I use. Nothing comes close to them. I've been working with these pencils for 5 years and have developed all kinds of different techniques with them. PM me if you are going to start to use them and I can share some of the stuff I've figured out.
