Fork oil?

I have a 01 zx6r for street and now track use. I need to change the fork seals, so I wanted to upgrade the oil if possible from stock. I'm actually not sure what the stock weigh is of the stock oil.
So my question would be, what is the best type and weigh fork oil I should get? If it matters I am 6'2" and 225 so I 'm on the large size!
Thanks.

Type is not as important as weight. 7.5-10 wt. should do. You may have to experiment to get the ideal weight for you, your type of riding and your machine.

Amsoil is an excellent choice for fork oil, as for the weight i will leave that one up to the experts here.

The lighter the oil weight the better... You cant go wrong with Amsoil but the factory is also good...

if ya weigh 90# then maybe this will work for you but its gonna all be rider preference.... if ya put in the right springs then you can run a little different oil and experiment..... if youre using stock suspension its gonna be sprung for 150# so if its bouncy you can go a little heavier oil, if it seems stiff/harsh you can go a little lighter oil.... its all gonna be preference....

Every couple of years at the outside. Forks are cold (no engine heat) except for some brake heat and friction, so the oil tends to suck water and get soupy over time. Pull the legs, pull out the springs, drain the old oil and use mineral spirits as a cleaner. Pour some ms in each leg and work the tube in and out. This will help flush out all the contaminants and metal. Drain this thoroughly before refilling. Fork oil level must be measured from the top of the tube with no spring and the fork leg compressed. Your manual will give you the proper measurement.

Depends on riding. Streetbike/commuting, every few years is fine. If you are roadracing/trackdays 1x a year is good. Type of riding and what type of feel you are looking for from the front end will dictate what weight FORK oil you wanna use.

I was reading an article in sport rider magazine and it well it was a CBR but still, he had put in 15-weight fork oil and was having handling problems. The expert from sport rider said:

"The 15-weight for oil you used is way too heavy for your CBR. Showa cartridge forks such as the one on your bike typically call for 5-weight oil. By using a much thicker oil your front suspension can't react quickly enough when you go over bumps or apply the throttle, leading to the drifting effect you feel when trying to manager a turn."

Thanks !!! (Your check is in the mail) LOL

Seriously though.

We have 5 wgt and 10 wgt Shock oil and is used by our Honda Race team and our Ducati Team.

Every 2 years is recommended by the OEM for Normal riding.
