Exclamation Dry Chain

Just purchased a 2001 ZX9R and the chain seems dry to me. It makes a clicking noise when i back the bike up and a sort of grinding noise while i drive it. i think it is the Chain not being lubbed. Can someone help me and what typpe of lube i should use for the chain.. (a_vazquez@verizon.net)

Go to any local motorcycle store/shop and ask for chain lube/wax. Any brand they stock should do it.

Question

Another noob question: Is it necessary to clean the chain before using chain lube?
And if so, what the heck would you use to clean it? Do they make a o-ring/x-ring chain solvent in a can or something?

Ya man.....they do sell "'chain cleaner" ....but I have always used WD-40 and clean-lint free rag. Spray is down good and wipe off dry. Apply the "chain-wax" per instructions on can. I like the preimum Honda brand. I also like to run the bike on the stand of a few minutes to heat up the chain...then apply the lube evenly to the chain. I do two revolutions. Also check your chain tension. If you have over 10K miles...better check for wear !!!
