There was an old rule of thumb that you needed 33-34bhp to do the ton, so to hazard a guess if the max bhp hasn't been upped then its probably good for around 170kph.

The old one's good for something like 100-105 mph. I suspect the new one will be very similar. Probably fast enough to get to jail if the cop's patient enough to wait for you to get to the ton.
If you're interested in top speed (or even acceleration for that matter) the 250 is the wrong bike for you.

yeah... wiki says the top speed is 105 mph, but i assume they're talking about the old model. mixed feelings on the 250. lots of parts sharing down the drain for the most part, but nice new model. i wonder what made them decide to update it after so many years?

It's a good bike to learn on. My ex g/f bought one when she got her license. She's still learning to ride and enjoying her 250.

Sure is a good bike to learn on. I've been learning to ride for over 25 years and finally figured out what 250s are all about. They are some of the very best motorcycles ever built in terms of fun to ride. It's just about as fun to ride as my R1.

^^ Agreed. They're just not widely known and not as big as they're planning on making it this year.

My wife picked up an '08 250 to learn on. I've taken it out a few times and it handles great - feels so light and "flickable" in the corners. Now get up and go; well that's another issue. There's basically nothing if you're under 6 grand. Above 6 it's O.K.
When I'm up for a ride though I'm all over my 636 thanks very much

my bud rican250 has an '08. i followed him on I-75 for a few miles. I saw 104 on the gps. He weighs around 225 so i don't think rider weight is too much a factor as far as top end goes for the 2fiddy.
