Ninja 250r 09 break in engine

ok im 16 and i earned the 250r by myself ive been saving up on it since i was 14 and i worked at a minimum wage which is 7.25 and hour....thats what it is in NY....people say ohh its 3000 miles till ti breaks in, and the manual says (yes, im not some kid who through the manual in the trash) that its 500, and it doesnt say much for the explanation so i want to know what the concept of breaking in an engine really is, like what is the top speed you should go while the engine is in the process of, i guess you could say "breaking". and what is the top RPM?

i really hope you guys arent confused like my last thread ahaa

Congrats on saving and buying a bike.
500 miles sounds about right for break in. Not sure what the max rpm would be but the main thing would be to vary the rpm. I would take it EZ and get used to the bike before ripping on it and going to redline. Some guys like to rip on it from the get go but you saved and bought yourself something nice. Take care of it and enjoy it. Be safe.

Kawasaki recommends 600 miles for the break in. Max RPM is 6000 and definitely vary speed. What that means is if you are cruising down the road, you want to be on and off the throttle...up to 6000rpm then down to 4000rpm, etc. You don't just want to cruise with the engine at a monotonous tone.

Make sense?

BTW, I just bought a 09 250 for my fiance a little over a month ago. I also own a 06 636 and a 98 Honda F3 racebike.

Hey man don't follow kawi 's breakin !!! It is the "responsible" company way , you need to get those piston rings seated and that way isn't gonna do it .First of all NO redlines until at least 600 miles , don't ride at a constant speed, and keep that bike loaded and unloaded . You don't need to WOT the bike when you are accelerating but accelerate and let off WITHOUT the brakes let the engine work itself down . Do this as much as you can for the first 600miles . I would also do an oil change and filter at about 100 miles and again at 600 .
