Your bike doesn't need help, just a little education for the rider. If your bike is turning 1000 rpm more than your friend's identical bike at the same road speed, it's obviously geared lower and will accelerate quicker. If you want to trade some of that acceleration for a bit more top speed (lower rpm at a given speed) you need a slightly smaller sprocket on the rear or a slightly bigger one on front. I would advise not to change the front by more than 1 tooth either way and don't change the rear by more than 3. If you are gearing up to match your speed/rpm with your buds, especially with a 250, you could run out of power if you go too far.
