a 250 is a good start... cheap price, cheap insurance, and you'll have more money left over for some gear.. which can add up quickly..
as far as the 250 vs. 600 argument?.. most of the time it's just ego and pride.. if you've never ridden before.. you 're not sure what you're gonna like yet... speed... cornering... cruising.. even seating positions make a huge difference from bike to bike.. i'm 6'2 ... 210lbs... and my ducati is small for me... but i love it.. and i do look forward to getting a 14... more bike.. and to take my girl on some canyons....
and remember... you can sell a bike pretty easily.. that's also fun to do.. trying different bikes.. there's also differences from motors as well.. two or four cylinders.. twins sound deeper and are known for torque... four cylinders like to be revved higher and also have a higher pitched sound...
welcome to the two wheeled world... so many choices....
look into taking a msf coarse.. find a friend who rides... and start slowly... enjoy it man...
