Question 07 zx6r oil filter removal

Plan on doing my own oil change soon ,what`s the best way to get the oil filter out? It`s in a really tight spot.

use a pluming wrench big enough to grip the filter squeeze it and turn it other wise you gotta buy the tool which will cost you around $40 or sumthing like that. then install and k&n oil filter they have a nut so you can use a wrench next time.

I had to buy one of those cheap stamped oil filter wrenches from AutoZone and use 5 minute epoxy to "glue" it to the oil filter to get it out. Once you get it out use the K&N filters from now on...

the factory oil filter is a pain in the arse but it get's easier after that!

I had to punch a long screw driver through it to get enough leverage budge it. Just remember to put a newspaper over the headers to funnel the leaking oil down to the oil tray! Just a tip!

on the tip. I did screwdriver trick as well and I got some oil on the header. Even though I had wiped it down real good, it still "smoked out" from the burning of oil on the hot pipes. No big deal really after the oil burned out but its always better to avoid that situation in the first place.

I used one of those cheap $5 stamped oil filter tools too. It worked fine.
Oil spills all over your engine and down the inside hoses and fairing. It really sux since I like to keep my stuff clean.

I am going to devise a punch tool that has a large hollow needle with a tube attachment to punch and drain the oil filter before it is screwed off.

I am going to take a piece of brass like a brass T of some sort and sharpen the end of it, connect a drain tube to the 90 degree part, then weld up the other open end so it can be struck with a hammer.

You could then put the tube in a container, put the homemade needle type device near the bottom of the end of the oil filter, tap it in with a hammer and drain the filter before you screw it off.
