'92 inverted ZX7 forks on '89 zx10?

I'm considering the front suspension on my '89 ZX10 and am thinking the inverted forks off a more modern setup will help out. There is a complete '92 ZX7 front end available to me. Tripples and bearings worry me. Has anyone got experience with this swap? Is there a common swap that is easier? I have all the tools and toys needed to fab in aluminum and steel to get this done.

Check out http://www.bigbikeworld.com there's info on there on how to do that mod. Just from a $$$ stand point you might just consider having the forks re-valved/re-sprung. Put the $$$ you save into a rear shock. I have an 89 ZX-10 and the only thing I haven't done was swap to USD fork.

I vote for replace. That is good advice to upgrade the rear shock.

Fastray has always said how an Ohlins upgrade made such a big difference. I recently replaced my rear shock on my zzr-1200 with an Ohlins (could be any decent rear shock) and it makes a world of difference. The stocker was probably completely shot. Its performance degrades slowly so once you notice it, it is really bad. The new shock is just amazing, should have done it a lot earlier.

FYI look around on Ebay for Ohlins shocks that fit various Kawaks. I found a brand new one for a ZX-9R that in every way fit my zzr-1200. I had to fab a mount to hold the various adjusters, but not too hard. Ohlins USA even changed out the spring to one appropriate for my size. (Ohlins USA sometimes blows out older model shocks on ebay. It was perfect and the service was great)

You'll want to replace the rear shock consider Ohlins KA003 46HRCS from a 90-92 ZX-11, it will give you more adjustability than the 46ERS for the ZX-10. If you go the ZX-11 route you'll need a shock clevis bolt the OE bolt on the ZX-10 is slightly short. If you go with the ERS for the ZX-10 it's a direct bolt on. You might consider Performance Works shock or even Wilbers which will run a bit less than Ohlins. If you want to be different look at a HyperPro rear shock will run more than the Ohlins. With the HyperPro they offer a Type 40 or Type 41 GP racing then from there you add on what requirements fits your needs however the price goes up with each option.
