91 zx7 cuts out at 9000 rpm

hey guys, i have a 91 zx7. bike runs good overall the prob. im having is the bike cuts out at 9000 like its hitting the rev limit. it does shoot a little bit of flames at night when it cuts out from the exhaust. the bike pulls cleanly all the way through the range till 9000 range then stops pulling and cuts out like a limiter. any suggestions would be great thanks. it sucks getting beat by 600's lol please keep in mind when responding that im new to bikes but i am mechanicly inclined. thanks again matt

Sounds like the bike is running lean on the upper rpm range. does it have stock exaust, or has it been set up with a jet kit and aftermarket exaust?

If it has been sitting for several months prior to you getting the bike, it may just neet a shop to go thru and clean the carbs and sync them.

Good time of the year for service, unless there fixing a lot of deer hunter's four wheelers.

it has a muzzy exhaust. im not sure if its jetted or not. wouldnt even know what to look for. my friend bought the bike from a dealer and never changed a thing but the bike did sit. ive riden it for over a year with premium and some vp through it at times. wouldnt have gotten a little better over that amount of time with that much fuel going through it? thanks for the help

also what should i be looking to get for service. what should be done and what would be a good ballpark price range to look for. i dont know any bike mechanics and dont what to get ripped off. ive done air filter, oil&filter all the basics but no motor work. ive heard about the syncing of the carbs and valve adjustmens but dont know what else should be done thanks again

Hourly Labor Rates Vary From Shop To Shop. But Your Probably Looking At Around 400 For A Clean And Sync. That Doesn't Include A Jet Kit And If You Want It Dyno Tuned. But You Mite Try Just Running Sum Carb Cleaner Through It If You Haven't Yet. I Always Do That In The Spring After My Bike Sits For The Winter.
