Unhappy Crazy noise after sproket/chain change

Ok I will start by saying my bike is 2005 636. Has 13000 miles. I got a vortex rear and front sprocket and new RK chain. I put on the rear sprocket and the chain on. Could not get off front sprocket at buddies house Figured Id do it at home.. So I rode about 20 miles and when I got close to house I heard bike making a sound like a car does when driving in reverse. It only makes the noise when I give it throttle. When I sqeeze clutch noise stops. The more throttle the louder it gets. Also I noticed stock front sprocket has two broke teeth. My chain not tight, it has plenty of wax on it. I cant figure it out. Maybe possible when I put on new front noise will go away. Any suggestions would be great

I would say your problem is in fact the front sprocket. If it's bad enough to have broken teeth in can destroy your new chain in a hurry. And if by wax, you mean the stuff the chain was packed in, that is not going to do any kind of a good job lubing the chain. You need to change that front sprocket, get some good chain lube on it and make sure it is adjusted right. Good luck, I hope it all works out.

crazy noise

What I mean by wax is chain wax in a can. I am going to do front sprocket this weekend and see where it goes.

Since chains and sprockets wear together, I would say you were hearing friction noise from the chain on the front sprocket...especially if you're missing teeth on the front sprocket. The chain was probably rattling around on that thing. Get that front swapped out and see if that helps.

i have the same noise, had it in my f4i as well after i changed gearing. im guessing u geared lower in front and even tho there is plenty slack it still creates a greater amount of tension on the smaller diameter front as it tries to "round the corner" so to say thus making internal gears wind up making them resignate a sound from that tension. or lok at it this way, your tires largest diameter is in the center so when u go into a corner the diameter gets smaller makin the wheel spin faster to maintain same rate of speed but u feel it wanting to pull the handlebars from the tension you've created.... or maybe im wrong hahaha!

I changed both sprockets and chain several months ago. There was almost no discernible wear on the front sprocket. How does one manage to break two teeth off one? Also, with two out of 15-17 teeth missing, why would you assume a "crazy noise" was coming from anything else? And how does a chain and sprockets wear out in only 13,000 miles? With proper maintenance, the chain and sprockets should at least last twice that long.

noise

Well I dont know how teeth broke on front sprocket. I just know they are broke. Anyway I know some of the noise is infact the front sprocket. Also I was looking at front rotor and about half way, well a little less than half way around rotor there is noticable scratches on the very edge of outside left front rotor. That is exactly what noise sounds like. Like the rotor is just bearly rubbing something. I can not see anything it is touching. Any ideas on how rotor would be out of wack like that.

Sounds like you have a small rock or something stuck inside your brake caliper.

Or the caliper is warped... Did you bump it into something lately? Or a new set of tires mounted?
