Exclamation Strange power loss!!

Hey there!
i recently just bought my 1st ninja about 2 months ago! its a 2001 model, and i absolutely love it! but today i havent! i was riding to work this morning and when i was about a mile away i lost all power and it sounded absolutely rough! The same sort of thing when you run a bike dry of fuel! then about a 1/2 mile later it picked up again. Got to work and other than nearly getting taken out buy a dopey lorry driver it was fine. got on it this afternoon and it was fine until i was about a mile away from home and it did it again then sorted it self out after a 1/2 mile.
anyone got anyideas? im no expert but to me it seems like a fuelling problem but i dont understand why it would be perfectly fine then die and pick up again!
cheers in advance!

That's a toughy. Could be carbs, a kinked fuel line, the gas tank may not be venting properly, there may be a clog in the petcock or fuel filter.

Start checking the easy things first like the fuel lines and gas tank vent before you go tearing into it too deep. Good luck.

I think i may have worked out what the problem is! i could be wrong but it is the only thing i can put it too! everytime its happened it has been in heavy fog, so i was thinking that it could the fog going into the air intake and the moisture getting into the carbs in turn mixing with the fuel causing loss of power! does this sound plausible to anyone else? if so anyone got any ideas on how i casn stop it! makes me late for work!
cheers!

Since it's a used bike, you never know what the previous owner(s) has done to it. It's probably fuel (some debris clogging...wrongly jetting & fouling) or electrical (spark, coil, stator...).

Sounds like it's a good time for a tune-up and mechanical check-up.
