'00ZX9R-Low RPM hesitation 0-3.2k RPM (carb adjustment?)A lot of questions!!!

I have 2000 zx9r that has had low rpm studder since I bought it about 2 years ago and it sat up for about a year. The guy I bought it from said it had been jetted with a D&D exhaust I believe to be a full exhaust? It has also had the sprockets swapped to what I don't know. I imagine I need to count the teeth... What would be the factory count?Just to throw I've raced dirt bikes and karts as a kid and imports since, so i know my way around motors.
My Carbs are my real problem, since I bought it it has had a low rpm studder around 1 to 3k . I tore them down last night and cleaned everything really well. It runs alot smoother if I'm not getting on it, but if I gun it up to about 2k it still has a slight hesitation. I had a guy the other day tell me it was prob my low rpm jet clogged up , and he would charge me 400+ parts if needed and would sync my carbs. I told him i would just by the sync tool and do it myself but I need a little help.Would doing a carb sync help take care of my hesitation and my problem or do I need to make some adjustments as well??

And this KLEEN contraption, what is it and where is it at , is there a kit to cover what I remove or do I even need one??

Also I dont know what temp. my thermostat is suppost to kick the fan on. I doesn't appear to be working unless I am not letting it get warm enough so i put a manual switch on it. I try not to let the temp. get more than 180-190.

This is my first crotch rocket and I love it, issues or not. It's a fun bike to ride. I wouldn't give up this bike even if it caused me a divorce (but she would never do it, she wants her own bike)

!!!!MORE POWER IS ALWAYS THE CORRECT ANSWER!!!!

All advice is greatly appriciated

Hi
Its always hard to give some good advice without having the bike in front of me but you must take in account that it’s very important for the carbs to be correctly synchronized but that may not be the cause of the engine’s hesitation;

-- Check your spark plug cables, sometimes they may have a minute crack in them and when the conditions are right a spark jumps between the cable and the engine head. I had a similar problem to yours and that was the solution for me. Especially on the plastic boot that covers the plug!
-- Check that the intake boots and manifold don’t leak any air, that’s important too.
-- And check the air box for air restrictions too.

They may seem like little silly things but they are often overlooked!
I hope you can fix your bike soon.

1. could be lean on the pilot or pilots are slightly clogged....def. do a carb synch but it would be best to do a valve clearance check/adjust before the synch...
2. KLEEN is there to inject air into your exhaust on decel. you can remove the vacumn switch, plug the holes on the valve cover and put a cap on the port from the carb
3. fan will kick on around 227+, your bikes not getting hot enough to worry about it

depending on the type of carbs your bike has (not too familiar with kawi carbs yet), engine stumbling off idle is usually a lean idle mixture problem if you dont have accelerator pumps in your carbs. so ya definately like what zaney said check the pilot jet and either clean or adjust if you you have the tools and know how

Well i tried to sync the carbs today but couldn't figure out were to hook them up at. I have been trying to find pics for hours now with no luck. I haven't tryied to adjust any needles yet I am hoping its just a sync issues since the hesitation is not that bad

I went over everything and there doesn't appear to be any air leaks coming from the air box.

The exact 45-minute how-to procedure can be found in the 9r Forum area. Search for carburetor synchronization. All 9r vacuum hookups are below the intake boots. Here's a picture from Calamari Chris' valve adjust how-to that shows the four vacuum tube routes. Good luck. ZX-9Rs love to have their carbs sync'ed and will reward you for a job well done!!!

Thanks E1!!! I did my first sync since I owned the bike and it is a completely new bike. It runs amazingly, I was really suprised what a difference it made.

Not to mention I made my own carb sync with tubing and a yard stick. I know its not as accurate as a true carb sync but I am really happy about the results

$400+ to have let a shop do what I did for $2.00.

Thank you everybody for your input and help.I would have not been able to do it with out help from fellow enthusiast
