ZX-6r Questions, Please help.

Ok, I have a guy locally wanting to trade me a 2000 zx-6r for my 2003 400ex,my quad needs a good bit of tlc but it runs perfect, The guy who owns the bike says the bike is in mint cond.,But it isnt getting fire, this is what he sent me..

i put a new motor in it, new cdi box, new junction box, new stator, new battery, new ignition, and more, the only thing in the firing system i haven't changed is the pick up switch on the side of the motor. But i have alot of extra parts. Bike has plenty of compression, and tranny and all is fine.

I dont know a whole hell of alot about bikes, So my question's are Does it sound like a easy fix? What do you think it would be? Would you do the trade?

I really want a sport bike, But not if im just going to stare at it everyday wishing i was riding because i cant figure out whats wrong with it.

I don't know jack about quads, so how much is yours worth? It's hard to say what the problem might be without getting my hands on it but it could be any number of things. And that's assuming the parts that were swapped out were good and installed properly.

Even in mint condition, the zx6r is probably only worth $2500 max. so take that into consideration.

Is he getting any sparks? First thing I would have changed is the spark plugs as sometimes they just fail to work properly if the bike isn't used much.

lol he changed everything but the pickup.......well if the ignitor/cdi/junction box are from another year then the pickup needs changed also... things gotta match up... square peg in square hole kinda thing........ could be he changes out the pickup for the same year as the other parts and it would fire right off..... who knows for sure though...

because no one has mentioned it yet im going to suggest you make sure your getting fuel (another one of the 3 important things a motor needs to fire) spray some starter fluid into the cylinders thru the carbs and if it fires then you have a fuel problem, if not you have spark and compression to worry about

yes you need air but if no air is present then you wont make compression

one last thing, im not familiar with the wiring on the ignition system but on my other bike i did run into a problem with my ignition system where it tied into the fuel pump relay and mine happened to be bad and as a result i was only getting a spark on half of my cylinders

hey brother, we changed a motor out in a bike once , the salvage yard that sold us the motor was supposed to include the conector plug "pig tail" with the motor, well we installed the motor and when we went to start it it wouldnt start, we went back and got the pig tail for the stato ad it fired right up,

each motor comes with its ow pig tail, the pig tail has pins in the conector plugs , if the pins dont line up right in conector you might get a routing issue ...
