Cold startup problems. 95 ZX9R

Hello, I have been having problems starting up my bike after it sits and motor is cold. The battery is good. When I hit the starter button it cranks for a second the stops sunddenly or clunks, after that the solenoid just clicks once each time I hit the button. If I keep pressing it over and over, it will eventually start turning over and start up. Once its warm it will start up no problem. I replaced the starter solenoid and it solved the problem for a month but then started happening again. I called Kawasaki and the guy told me it was either the battery or the starter clutch witch you have to take apart the motor to fix apparantly...so now im super worried...Could it be the starter clutch with these symtoms?? any help would be great...THanks!!

new battery first..... does it do the samething when you have jumper cables on it ? if it fires right off with the jumper cables i would say its just a weak battery... if it still clunks then yes it could be starter clutch...not to bad to do but you will need a puller...

I havnt tried hooking up jumper cables when the problem happens. I tested the battery and it said good at 12.8 on multimeter, but I did do quick charge when I first bought it, and havnt gone for very long rides when I do go out, anyway I put it on trickle charger overnight so I will see what happens tomorrow when I start it up, Ill keep my fingers crossed its just the battery but have my doubts...thanks for your feedback, ive gotten alot of help on this site sor far...its great!

what ya see on the VM dont really mean anything. put a full charge on the battery and have a car/bike shop LOAD TEST IT..... it will tell you instanly if its good or bad.... should NOT drop below 10.5v over a 10-15sec test......

Yeah for sure, I will get the battery loadtested. It is pretty new, but I know they can be faulty, If its not that, then I might just have to take it in to Kawasaki, but I know that can be VERY expensive from past experienne...I just dont have enough experience testing all the wiring...I will see if I can get a hand, because i now its alot of trail and error...alot of ppl say putting di electric grease on all the connections is a good idea?
