ZZR1100/ZX11 Clutch binding?

Hi all, I've recently picked up a ZZR1100D6 but the clutch is behaving a little oddly.

I first noticed a problem after it had been parked up overnight in 1st gear (not normally what I do). Clutch level pulled in, cranked the engine over and the bike lurched forward. Slightly unnerved I tried again, and it lurched again. I set the adjuster ring on the lever to max and tried again. Same result, it pulled forwards as if I'd not got the lever in.
Managed to get it into neutral and all was ok. When I was ready to ride off I dropped it into 1st with a resounding clunk and the revs dropped, but didn't stall. It was fine after a few minutes.

Now I'm aware that on occasion (not all the time) if I stop at lights with the clutch pulled in and the bike in 1st, the bike tries to pull forward, in a pulsing motion.
9 times out of 10 it is fine, and there doesn't seem to be any pattern to when it does it. Wet or dry, warm or cold, engine cold or at normal temp.

Any suggestion on what I can look at to diagnose this?

cheers

I've not tried bleeding the clutch so that might be worth a go.
The idle is between 900 and 1100, which sounds fairly ok with my limited experience.

The clutch friction plates need to be cleaned. They have soaked up enough crancase oil that they stick together instead of separating when the lever is pulled. Only the torque of the motor in gear pulls them apart and the lurch is what happens first. While you have the clutch apart, inspect the fingers of the basket for burrs that would interfere with smooth engagement/disengagement If you see any, fiole them smooth. Also inspect the plates for wear and inspect the metal plates for warpage. If anything isn't up to spec, replace before you reassemble.
