Fuel pump

Should i hear my fuel pump starting up for a few seconds when i switch on the ignition on my zx6 f3. My other bikes do it. but not my zx & im wondering if this is causing my bike to run rough once its under load as its just getting the fuel gravity fed. Cheers.

I only hear mine when I turn the key to the on position if I have the kill switch set to run. If the kill switch is knocked to the off position I dont hear it until the bike is running. So you might want to check that. If you are having problems with your bike running rough you can check your fuel pump but more likely it could be an issue with either your spark plugs, your ignition coils, your exhaust valve, your air/fuel ratio, or secondary injectors (if you are fuel injected)

I've changed the fuel pump, the coils, the plugs, checked & adjusted the valve clearances & even swapped the whole carbs over with a set from a running bike. It'll rev right through the range in 1st but wont go above 6/7000 in other gears. If i go from 1st to 2nd withouth letting the revs drop below 6000 it revs freely up to redline, same in 3rd etc. Completley at a loss......

im having a similar issue.i have a 1992 zx7r and it doesnt want to rev above 6000 without bogging.the only other thing i noticed is that i have to cycle the ignition key on and off a couple of times before it will spark which leads me to believe it may be a cdi problem.im looking for more info before i spend the money on one though.
