i use the bike a couple of times a week and had this problem about a month ago but it went away and came back saturday. i took bike out this morning an problem is still there
bike will accelerate ok at low revs but when i get to the main 'hold on tight' powerband it's just not there and i get a popping sound.
i am thinking coil pack or a fuel blokeage somewhere
Can anyone point me in the right direction of any known issues that might cause problem?
First thing to do is make sure that the carbs are clean. If there is debris in there, clean the entire fuel system (tank, lines, filter).
Then check all the carb parts for damage. Check the rubber diaphragms on the slides for tears or pinched in cover.
Next, verify that all carb settings are within spec. Lastly, check to make sure float bowl venting is hooked up correctly as well as the air box.
Check the diaphragms on the top of carbs first since you will not have to remove the carbs. If they are okay, remove the carbs and clean them thoroughly.
The clicking you hear is the fuel pump (from your description). If you hear it clicking, it means it is probably working. However, if it is noisy and runs constantly, you may have restricted fuel flow going to the pump. It clicks louder when the pump is empty (no fuel filling it up) so make sure the lines are not kinked or pinched under the tank. That line is molded to sit under the tank and not pinch.
SOLVED. tank was full of water. don't know how it got there as drain tube didn't appear blocked. didn't remove carbs just drained them together with tank. removed filler cap and fully cleaned seal and filler neck. left to fully dry for a couple of days in the sun before filling with new fuel.
