Smile Carb swap into newer engine advice

I own a 1990 Ninja ZXR750, will 36mm carbs swap into 38mm? I bought a 1992 ZXR 750 engine with the carbs removed. So I'm thinking they should swap and it will be easier to install before mounting the engine and get back on the road. I can surf and find 38mm or larger later on. Only took 17 days to find an engine, thought it would be like forever or I'd upgrade to newer engine since the 94 thru 97 fit with minimal mods.

I believe the new engine will mount with no or minimal problems. I'm getting the harness too. Your advice will be greatly appreciated!
