Starting/Ignition problem

I used the search but could not find a similar issue. When i try to start my 99 zx7 all i hear is a click from the junction box when i hit the start button. The bike usually starts if i hold the start button and the turn the key to the on position. I verified the starter isnt getting power when the start switch is pressed and i already replaced the junction box.I also checked the fuse for the starter and that is fine too. What else could be the issue? thanks in advance.

usually when you hit the start button and all you get is a clicking, it turns out to be the battery. It's got just enough juice to try, but not enough to actually turn the starter. check the voltage of the battery and maybe have it tested

Ill try charging the battery but it has always done this and it starts fine when you hold the start button and then turn on the ignition.

have you checked for loose cables and wires yet? and are you getting just a click? or is it clicking multiple times?

Ok, i put another starter relay in the bike and didnt fix it. I am getting 12v at the white wire at all times, the yellow with red stripe is getting a little over 5v when i hit the start button. I made sure the black wire has a good ground too. Should the yellow/red wire e getting 5v when i hit the switch? thanks

Well there is only 3 other things it can be..... The Ignition, The Starter it self, Or the switch...
But try this first try and start the bike if it does it again put it in first roll it back with the cluch pulled in and let the clutch out fast. To make the engine turn in reverse. Listen for the motor to move. Then try starting it again.. You might need to try it 2 or 3 times. But if it trys to start then you have somthing binding up. Colud be a few things from there. Had a zx9 that did the same thing sometimes...

Let me know if it works..

i know the motor works fine because if i hold the start button and then turn on the key, the bike starts. If i turn on the key and then hit the switch, i get power to the starter solenoid but only 5 volts at the switched wire. Could you see what voltage your getting at the yellow/red wire at the solenoid when you hit the start button? thanks

With the negtive on the bk/y and the positive on the r/y I'm getting between 8-9 volts. depends on how long I have to hold it in before it cranks.
