could not find order in which to tighten rear axle components..

Hi all,

I've got a zx-11 with those round slack adjusters at the rear axle. I couldn't find in the Clymer service manual (or the kawi one for that matter..) the order in which you should tighten them when putting the rear wheel back on.

I found that I had to adjust the slack of the chain first, then tighten the pinch bolts. Then I tightened the axle to 80ft/lbs (which seemed a lot tighter than it was before).

Is this the order in which you do it? The reverse order of removing the wheel would suggest tightening the axle first, then the pinch bolts.

Thanks,

RAS

Have a look in the Kaw manual firstly under rear wheel and then under final drive. Some times rather annoyingly they refer you to another section for a proceedure because they're to slack to reprint it again. My 600 manual is a bit like that.

I think your last sentence is correct. Put on chain, insert axle, tighten axle , adjust chain, tighten pinch bolts.

Yeah, I fumbled through the whole guide... nothin'. I'm starting to think it really makes no diff, so long as everything is torqued correctly.

Thanks for the reply..

usally snug axle then tighten chain. tighten pinch bolts on the left side.then make sure right side marks are the same as the left. tighten pinch bolts, then tighten axle. no real order as long as everything is lined up.

Cool... tell me, does 80ft/lbs seem like a lot for the rear axle bolt? Also, my service manual says to slap on some anti-seize compound, but when I pulled the axle it was coated in thick black grease... what does everyone else here use?
