1988 zx750, clutch is working 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th gears all work, no 1st, push down on shifting leaver as hard as you can and is just grinds lightly, there is a neutral but neutral light will not come on. bike did skip only in second gear for awhile . my thoughts are shifting fork? any other ideas would be great.
Have had 2 stroke dirt bike engines apart before, am i better off spending the money at the shop, or trying myself.
shifting fork for sure.. pledged these older bikes. I am having the same problem with mine now but i plan on replacing the entire transmission and i am having a buddy do it for 30/ hour which isnt bad

Could that be why my bike doesnt have 2nd gear? We were thinking a fork, but didnt want to tear all the way into the bike to check it out when it was possible the earlier bikes had an issue with it.
yep it starts out slipping and your just loosing power for a split second. then it starts to get worse and popping into neutral from second on hard pulls. then it gets worse if you still havent fixed it and pops out of second so much that is fucks up the gears and now your second gear will not engauge. May need a real mechanic to look at that.
