throttle grip

HI all..

Have a question that might seem elementary to many but has me a bit confused.
I just purchased a 99 zx7r and it has a bit of a throttle problem. Being that the throttle grip won't return to 0 without me manually moving it there. I opened up the kill switch housing and I have two throttle cables. One to open the butterflies and the other is just static. I'm not sure what the other cable does, and no I don't normally wrench on my own bikes but this seems like it should be rather simple.

My assumption is thus;
The moving cable is the throttle cable and should be attached to the back of throttle grip in it's own groove.
The static cable should wrap around the underside to the front of the grip to it's own cable notch and they feed out of the same hole to the inside bottom of the kill switch housing.
This is how I have it setup and when I close everything up the grip still sticks.

Can anyone point a blind man in the right direction?

Thumbs up

one is to open the throttle and should return under spring tension from the butterflys on the carbs... the other cable closes the butterflys... i guess if you really need to snap it shut... make sure ur cables are lubed well and check that they're routed to the proper side of the carbs... as for which goes where, if i remember the throttle open cable has a plastic elbow on the grip end that fits into the housing and the other one just slides in underneath it before the elbow goes into the killswitch housing... try to find a copy of the pdf service manual using the forum search... it takes a bit to decipher, but it shows where the cables go in there somewhere...

i have also found that if the grips are not on properly on throttle side it causes the throttle to clamp down and therefore not return... it is usually where it is shoved on too far and is hard up against the cable housing.simple and silly but trhought i might just throw it out there...
