Free play on rear sprocket? ('92 zx-11)

Just wondering if this is normal.. I've got a '92 ZX-11 with 28K on it. All stock. When I put the bike on the center-stand and apply the rear brakes, I can move the rear sprocket a little bit (forward and back, maybe 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch if I were to mark it).

In other words, when I accelerate from a stop, the chain advances that much before the wheel actually turns...

??

Should I be concerned?

thanks,

Rich

Inside the wheel is a rubber cush-drive (thats what I've always called it, basically a rubber cushion). Its probably worn out and needs replacing. As I understand it, the rubber cushions the trans from shock induced by on/off throttle response. Basically when the bike starts chugging for whatever reason, the cushion protects the trans. My brother has a bike with a sprocket mounted solid to the rear rim. When riding it, it is important to remember this and not let the bike chug (meaning try to ride smooth). My point is that this is an important piece. You should inspect it, probably replace it. Thats my 2 cents on the matter.

Yes, the cushion drive is prone to be short lived on a ZX11C.
