Key turns ignition 360 degrees?
hey, i bought a wrecked bike and when i got the key made at the kawi dealership, it fits but it turns the cylinder in ignition 360 degrees. Bike wont power on due to the ignition. Any thoughts? Bad key or bad ignition?

had this problem last week actually. the key would work the gas tank and rear trunk. the ignition wouldnt work though because the key was too short. all it did was spin in the cylinder.

did you do a report on the bike because if the bike was stolen and wrecked they mostlikly broke the locks and parts inside the ignition and you will probly have to replace it.....my friend just got one for his 929 off ebay for like 35$

on the zx6 i bought, i lost the key. used the code and had one made and the key was cut correctly but was about half an inch too short. but like the other person said it could be a broken lock. best bet is post what kind of bike and see if someone can give you measurements of their key. if yours is too short thats probably your problem. if its the correct length you need a new lock i would guess.

i had two keys cut, and it was odd because the length on both of them was different.... one key fit all the way, the other stops half way. both turn the ignition all the way, neither powers on the bike... I was just trying to figure out if it was a problem with the ignition or the key. btw, the key opens up the gas tank and the seat, but does not power on the ignition

how'd you guys get new keys? I lost my only key and tried to get it replaced by the dealership, but they said they didn't cut keys and referred me to a locksmith. However, the guy they referred me to keeps rescheduling on me, and I haven't been able to find any other locksmiths in the area that cut motorcycle keys. I ordered keys using the gas cap and rear locks, but none of them work for the ignition. Any way to get a new key without removing the ignition lock? Thanks in advance.

some dealerships cut keys, others don't. just call different kawi dealerships and one will cut keys. I recommend that u get a locksmith to cut the keys for u cause it seems like the dealerships are not so hot at cutting them

it still sounds to me like your key is too short. what is it for and how long is it. i myself am new to kawi's ive always had hondas, but got too good of a deal to pass on the zx6. but other people on here should be ablt to give ya the length of their key. i think mine is an inch and 3/4 maybe 2 inches, but others may be different.

none of the dealerships in my area cut keys. some of them copy keys, but none of them can cut a new one
i had a locksmith come out and he spent 40 minutes trying to cut a key that would work. no success, and the locksmith that the dealership recommended keeps cancelling on me.
