Question 98 zx7 question (ignition or gas)

ok you know the bike. it has alot of miles on it. like 43000. it has been running perfect for a long time. then all of a sudden one day it barely started and ran like crap. so i did what most people would do, and give it a tune up. well i started with the plugs, plug wires and checked the coils. so after it still didn't want to start. so i clened the carbs reinstalled stil no start.. so finnaly i change the fuel pump and filter. it starts right up runs really smooth.. now this is where it gets a little wierd. i give barely any throttle the rpms will come up to a max of around 4000... it will not go over 4000... if i even give it 1/4 throttle it will die.... if anyone knows how to fix or has had the same problem let meknow... thanks guys

also mods the bike had is a full akropovic exhaust and has been jetted to accomodate..

I'm not familiar with the zx-7,but I would check to make sure the ram air is connected properly.

sounds like fuel, check your carbs. oh and never "tune up" a bike to fix it, it won't. diagnose the problem, fix it, tune up on regular intervals.

if it was a vuccum line it would be noticable at idle and smooth out when you rev it up... sounds like fuel is cutting out or something with the air intake.

ok for anyone who has been reading this thread or anyone with this problem in the future... I found and fixed the problem... It was in the carbs... I pulled the jets out.. The #3 jet was clogged and gunked up... So I cleaned all the jets now it runs like a champ..

Mine is doing the same thing. I haven't got to the carbs yet. That's my next stop. I really hope that it is just the carbs.
