Unhappy ZX6R wouldn't go into neutral after it was dropped on it's left side!

Tonight I must of landed in a oil or deisel spill cause as soon as planted my feet my left foot slid out and my bike went on it's side, I tried to stop it as much as possible so it went down slowly. When I picked the bike back up i noticed that the netural light wasn't coming on! I tried turning the bike back on and off and still nothing. I was able to shift up and down just like normal but no shift like. I rolled the bike back and forth and it was obviously in gear. The weird thing is after rocking it back and forth a few times and repeatedly shifting up and down it finally went into neutral and the light came on to indicate it. After this i continued driving and everything was back to normal. I don't know if this makes a difference but i just did a oil change earlier today. What could of caused this? If anyone can help that would be great, thanks!

You probably weren't in first gear when you shifted all over the place. You probally were in 2nd or so, shifting to 3rd and such instead.

A little bit of preventative maintenance can go a long way for things like this. I keep some cat litter in my garage for oil spills from servicing... :)

well i took the bike out last night for a 30 minute drive and everything ran fine, i probably was in 2nd or higher when i was trying to go into neutral. There was a couple of times last night when i was approaching a light and i had to downshift more times than i thought, i'm still getting used to not visually seeing what gear i'm in like driving stick.

My ZX9 does that sometimes too. I think it is because it was in gear and then you tried to shift it when the bike was standing still. At least thats what mine will do at a red light if I dont down shift far enough.

You need to get into the habit of counting gears. And when you stop, no matter what gear you think you are in, tap the shifter down a few times to make sure you are in first gear...

this is a good point! its unfortunate when you run to the top of your gears and try to shift up... and there are no more gears. you should count gears just avoid that feeling of disappointment in this situation.

glad you got your problem solved!
