Horn Upgrade

Swapped my pants OEM horn for a Stebel Nautilus Compact horn and produced this simple guide.

Thanks to Touchwoodsden for doing the hard work and finding a suitable place to mount the horn.

This horn is an excellent unit at a great price. Whole upgrade took 1 hour start to finish and sounds awsome..

Great video. The location chosen is the same I picked out to mount mine (once I get around to creating a bracket).

Is it really necessary to trim the trumpet in order to get it to fit? Would a longer bracket permit mounting without cutting?

Btw, not all stebels have the mount point at the top of the compressor, some have it on the side (like mine). An L bracket is not needed then, just a straight piece with 2 holes drilled.

I've had mine on for a few weeks now.. it works great! I have mine almost in the same spot but I just used very heavy HVAC ties around the right side air intake hose. no clearance issue and its not going anywhere... all other wiring is virtually the same as described in that nice powerpoint presentation. my trumpet are pointing down, the wiring pointing towards the rear of the bike..

See you on the road,

Jerry

Mine fitted without trimming too. I didnt even remove the fairing! But I did take the tank off. I love the video, with some cops and robbers music it would be like watching an old silent movie with the writing in that font. I bet the video took longer to make than the job took! I bet even Fred Harmon is impressed! It is also possible to mount without the L shape bracket as the little lug on the cornm body will take a loose M8 std full nut.

Well done one and all.

Isn't there an easy way to get the sound. Geez, you gotta be a mechanic to even understand what comes off and goes on much less the wiring. Yikes. You guys are the best but I woundn't dare try this at home.

Al

If you can undo one screw (which I am sure you can) you can take anything apart. All u need 2 do is remember what goes where. Rebuiling a 12 cylinder engine fro example is just like rebuilding 12 single cylinder engines all the same and at the same time!
I meta guy once who bought my old Blackbird. He even put the bike in to get brake pads changed AND to have the chain adjusted! More money than sense IMHO. Howver if you read the Kwak manual, virtually everything is down asa dealer job! I am reluctant to use a dealer for anything. 1st service for example, how do you KNOW what oil they use? Mmmm....

I had to trim a bit off as I wanted to keep a straight bracket and an upright compressor unit, as specified in the destructions without the need to have any dogleg bends in it. I also didn't want the horn rubbing the RamAir intake or possibly vibrating against the RamAir intake jubilee clip. The top of the horn compressor needs to clear the underside of the inner cover which has some heat proofing foam on the underside. As this cover is quite flimsy it would be easy for the horn to deform it when the cover is refitted allowing water to run under, hence the need to trim the trumpet to allow the horn to sit slightly lower. It makes no difference to the sound at all.

The Stebel Nautilus has two methods of mounting. One a large 8mm bolt and nut for side mounting also a small 5mm hole in the top which I used for my mounting position. Having two positions certainly makes mounting options easier.
