A short ride, thought I'd warm up those covered in snow....
...Leaving Sydney around 10Am on a cool, cloudy 17C morning the task ahead wasn’t so much the distance but for me to hold legal speeds and not get done by the
Christmas Traffic Nazi squad. They were out in force and one or more were sighted every 30-40km.
But, they missed out; the GTR is such a tractable ride I had no trouble adapting to a legal crawl with the occasional blip!
(footnote, we have double demerits here over christmas, do 2 speeding tickets, on a gtr especially, and you walk for a year!!!)
The road out of Sydney started with 40km of tollway then 80kms of normally fast winding bends, but the clouds let go and a mixture of drizzle and light rain made the diesel coated route a little more challenging. With the occasional slide earlier on I opted to
pretend I was on a Harley.
Our summer normally has temps over 25C, but along the way I had to stop and ended up with winter gloves and a jumper wishing for the GTR heat to warm my legs.
Over the mountains the view cleared and the rains stopped, nice. Hardly any cars or bikes on the road made my throttle restless to enjoy the roads ahead.
Stopping in a lonely town, Ilford to enjoy a ciggy in the sun and a vista of yellow and purple fields of flowers behind the old local church (C1870). That was the end of my religious input for the day
The road ahead went through some of the nicest pastures in the country winding through old townships. Families were often seen enjoying Christmas Lunch on their sunny verandahs all waving madly as I occasionally sounded my horn and waved.
Arriving in Mudgee under a warm and windy sky my darling Sue had the best Christmas Lunch ready. Nothing like fresh local produce and a lovely maiden serving!
Later that day we took a ride down memory lane along Henry Lawson Drive to Gulgong, the town featured on our first 10-dollar note. Not a soul in the streets, a ghost town for the day enhanced the historical features of this nice little place!
We soon got back in the evening for Christmas pudding !
That was my Christmas Downunder, brilliant bike, great ride, wonderful food and all the usual warm and fuzzy things that makes it all worthwhile!
