Black safety reflectve stuff
Got some of the black safety reflective stuff from ebay. I didnt want to persevere with the compound curves so I trimmed the cut out recessed bit near the top bit by about another 1".
Pics speak for themselves. OK on black bike but n/s for blueish one.

Good Job ! Your reflective stickers turned out nice. I was thinking about getting that kit from e-bay, and like you, I wasn't going to use all of it.
I've just ordered some black reflective pin striping tape, which should be interesting. (I'm hoping it's as bright) I'll post some pics when it's done. http://www.streetglo.net/reflective.tape/
If the pinstripes don't turn out well, I'll get the kit you did and do something similar with it.
Cheers.

TwD, I may be wrong and legislation could well have changed here in the UK, but as far as I am aware you cannot show white light to the rear on a UK vehicle. Hence our bike rear numberplates are still yellow. With this amount of reflective white tape you will be effectvly showing a white light to the rear. The company who makes these tapes also do a RED reflective tape for the UK.
It would be well worth checking with the local plod where you stand before you get pulled over on a dark wet night.
Keep us informed on what you find out.

Yep, I thought that too - that's why we have red reflectors on the rear. See construction and use regs here:

Excellent point and I admit to not having thought about that. If I get pulled I will make the point that at least it got me noticed!
However I would argue that I am not showing a "light" and that a rear view mirror or chrome bumper does exactly the same, probably even better! I didn't want the red alll over the bike during the day. Plods and Paramedics reflective blue or green and white stripes show white to the rear. I would need to look at the definition of light in the regs/act.
It is alos proobably illegal to show yellow or amber light to the rear except alrnately flasshing (indicators). Dunno abt the old semaphore signals. If I hade amber lights all over the raer of my car, are they illegal? I wudve thort so, but don't know.
Any vehicle with reflective stickers or sign writing (other than red) anywhere other than the front is in same metaphorical boat. I would simply go to court in the interests of road safety.
We shall see what gives.

Dunno if it was different kit. This kit only had the 2 pieces. Cost £18 GBP.

wow, I just got mine (set for rear from the rack guy for 10.41 GBP (21USD), suppose that's good.
I made a similar thing replacing the GIVI red stripe on their older model 45L topcase, that encircled the middle of the case with a 2" band. Made a big difference being noticed!
I like the idea of blending in with the black in daylight.

Anyway it's staying and if plod pulls me that's fine. I shall plead in court. fortunateley IAAL!
If the chavs can drive around with blue lights all over their Citroen Saxos then I should be fine with my GTR IMHO.

I spent some time on Google
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/SI/si1989/Uksi_19891796_en_3.htm
This sectionseems to infer all is ok as the bike isnt fitted with a light...
(2) No vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which is capable of showing any light to the rear, other than a red light except...
There are some provisions with regard to reflective material but only in respect of lamps. I admit to only having speed read the doc quickly.
More research follows.
And then I found: http://www.opsi.gov.uk/SI/si1994/Uksi_19942280_en_1.htm which says:
Colour of light shown by lamps and reflectors (including reflectors on rear markings and signs on buses carrying children)
5.—(1) Regulation 11 shall be amended as follows.
(2) In paragraphs (1) and (2), after the word "lamp" where it first appears in each case there shall be added the words "or retro reflective material".
Just need to find out difference between reflective and retro reflective. Not looking good, but WTF. :-)
Aha I found it. Retro reflective reflects back to the source. So, it looks like my stuff is verboten. Oh well, at least it will get me noticed. I wonder if transparet red film over it would make appear black in the day but reflect red. Just a thought. Would cut down light tho. Mmmm.....

It would be interesting to see UK number plates made with black refelctive letters and see what they looked like under Gatso flash!
