Pipes, again

I have now reached 4000 miles on the bike and feel I haven't had any real problems. Have changed the oil several times and am now ready for the synthetic. Being in Florida, was planning on Mobil 1 15-50. Does anyone know if the automotive oil is detrimental to the clutch? It's either the Mobile 1 at about $21 for 5 qt container or AmsOil at more than double. Any feedback? Also, have on order the Muzzy duels. Curious if anyone has any dyno numbers with an aftermarket can, PC3, and the CATS removed. I've seen the numbers on most but can't recall seeing any with the CATS REMOVED. Feel the removing of the CATS will be a source of much new found power. Obviously, the Muzzy 4into2 is without the CATS. Thanks for any info. Have been enjoying the bike. Just did another 400miles yesterday.

Yes, automotive oil will not provide the right kind of protection. Use only motorcycle rated oil as specified in the OM.

Don't plan on racing it other than screwing around on the street. However, have the mindset that there is no such thing as to fast or to much power. Do hope that it would run a little cooler though. And it would be neat as hell to be able to hang with the Busas and ZX14 up to 140-150.

I'm sure many of us are anxious to see pics after install and hear more details about the performance gains. When do you expect delivery?

Can't say for delivery, probably about a month as Muzzy appears to be waiting until they can do a run of at least thirty before producing them. I'm hoping to get some input on a 4into1 without the cats. I don't understand that they have a 4into1 for the ZX14 but only a 4into2 for the Connie. Curious which would be the better performer. In either case, I'll have dyno numbers shortly after the pipe is available. Does anyone know if a 4into1 designed for the ZX would bolt up on the Connie?

How much do they want for the Muzzy duals? I've seen pics. Look good at first glance.

Haven't released a price yet. Would imagine that the price will be announced soon. Hoping to see some dyno numbers on a 4into1 system without the cats prior to this one being available.

Ron, a very knowledgeable person named Fred Harmon on another forum, Concours.org, made a comment that he uses Mobile 1 15W-50 gold cap in his Gold Wing and will use it in his Concours. Since Wal-Mart sells it, I may go the same direction when I switch over to synthetic. For now, I'm using Kawasaki 10W-40 with Kawasaki oil filters.

I can tell you that the stock ZX14 header and right side can fit up on the C14 with no modification whatsoever. I cannot imagine that a ZX14 4-2-1 would not bolt right up.

The left side pipe on the stock ZX14 system slightly interferes with both the side stand and center stand on the C14, but again the right side (stock side) pipe fit with no mods whatsoever.

Ron, here is a link to comments on oil from another forum. Especially read the one by Fred H.

Thanks Bob for the other site. Read all of it, especially Fred H. He said what I had previously learned doing search on oils. What I did learn that I was unaware of was the Mobil 1 silver and gold cap. Just changed the oil last nite, using Mobil 1 15-50 silver cap. Will have to look at the gold cap next time. I called the dealer where I bought the bike today, spoke with the owner and asked if he saw any problem using Mobil 1 15-50. Kind of expected him to say bike specific oil, but, to my surprize and his credit, he told me that he uses Mobil 1 15-50 in his own bike (ZX1000), rides hard, and has never had an issue, including clutch related. I was impressed with his honesty as dealers around here push the bike specific at outragious prices. Thanks again for the info.

Ron, here is a later post by Fred on Silver and Gold Cap I thought you'd like to see.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can see links to the product data and MSDS sheets for Mobil one Silver cap (links at the bottom of the page):
http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...1_15W-50_.aspx

Product Data Sheet
http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lub...il1_15W-50.asp

And the Mobil One 15w-50 Gold Cap here:
http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...ce_15W-50.aspx

Product Data Sheet
http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lub...erformance.asp

If you look closely at the product description in the features and benefits section, you will see these words printed at the top:

"Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30 and 15W-50 are made with a proprietary blend of high performance synthetic basestocks"

When you look at the same features and benefits section for the Silver cap, you will find the words "synthetic base stocks" noticeably absent.

I suspect this is an indicator that the Silver Cap Mobil One is not made of true PAO base stock and that only the more expensive Gold cap is still true synthetic based oil.
