SpiderMD, holy crap, what an great idea! It doesn't look half bad either! You did a good job. Did you morph the two screens, though, how was that done?
Looks like it should provide some good protection.

Kory,
Thanks, I took the original windscreen off. Laid the GW windscreen up where I wanted it. Marked the three holes I needed to drill. Then just got out a straight edge and marked off the area I wanted to cut off. Use a jig saw on slow speed, cleaned it up with my sander and painted the inside of the lower part of the shield silver. I was out of black paint and was in a hurry to see how it would look on. I think I’ll paint that part black this weekend.

Cool!.. I bet that gives some hand protection in the down position... Give us a full report when you have it fully tested Spidey! Nicely done

Good Job ! It does look like it will give more protection than the narrower stock shield. I'm sure everyone will want a report on it after you road test it.
I'm also interested to know if it cracks at the top of the "M" cutout though. I looks a little sharp up there.
Anyone know what the purpose of that cut out is ?

The cutout provides a route for air to flow through, disrupting the low pressure vortex created behind the windscreen while at traveling at speeds above 34.675 mph, thus reducing the perceived air pressure within the cockpit.
Basically, it keeps the wind off yer back dude.
Besides that,,, it looks pretty cool too!
BTW - good job SpiderMD - it looks great. I'm sure the price of new/used Gwing shields just went up!

Well I can’t take credit for this, because the guys at Honda designed a great windscreen. But I got to tell you, this windscreen is fantastic. The air flow is so smooth with the screen up or down. And when it’s up, my gosh, the envelope of still quiet air is amazing. The strange thing is, the faster you go, the better it gets. When the shield is in the up position you can feel a fair amount of air on your hands, but that’s the only place, and it’s not a problem. Also at some height settings you feel a slight push on your back, but again not a problem. I took my bike up to 85 and was able to open my face shield, the protection was that good. If the weather holds up I’ll continue the evaluation and report back soon.
Thanks for the kind words,
Greg

Greg,
Because of the additional width of your windscreen, Keep watch of how much extra flexing is occuring at the mounting arms. Especially with the screen up. Better protection=more drag. I love the look of the shield, but your a guinea pig out there when it comes to stressing the arms. I'd hate to see you damage something in the lifting mechanism. I don't think I'd try to redline 5th gear with the shield up.. ;) Not an issue at an extended 75...hopefully.
See you on the road,
Jerry

Thanks for the heads up Jerry. I'll keep an eye out for flexing. I hope to get 3 or 4 hours on the bike this morning....... 70 degrees today, 30 degrees and ice tomorrow.

my tall factory screen has a label facing the rider that says not to operate the screen adjustment while riding! I suspect that it is too much resistance for the mechanism.

Spidey...great job!!!
I doubt the high speed wind flex will hurt it.
The nice thing about this mod is the width. Not my cup O tea style wise. I prefer the "sport" look personally. But nice job!

Hey SpiderMD, any chance you would make a template from your windshield? At the least a way to locate the mounting holes old and new?

Hey psy1261, hope this small picture helps a little. (can't find a bigger picture) Anyway I just sort of free handed the cut-out and then held the windscreen up to the brackets and then marked the hole positions.
Greg

How is the wind on your hands with the screen down?
How much taller is it over stock?
