Seasons Over
Hi All
Well the time has come to put the wheels away for the winter.
Temp reached -17C here last night and some snow on the ground. Not conditions favourable to good riding!!
i will have to live vicariously through the posts of our Aussie/South African/Southern USA riders for the next 4+ months. Keep the stories coming guys.
Tnx

ICBM, that's too cold! -17C is what in degrees? Think I'd consider moving South. :-)

3 or 4 degrees F.
Yep...that's too damn cold for riding...at least for me.
Last January my best friend from Denver called. He said it was about 20 F and blowing snow with 3 to 4 inches of pack on I-25. He said some nut on Bimmer 1200LT had just passed him!
And I thought I was a hard azz.

About the same here in Calgary. Temperatures are falling and we have snow on the ground. The bikes are parked until spring unless I load them in the trailer and head south.

-17C = 1.4 F to be precise, or just DAMN COLD. Worse to come, -20'sC is common with some dips into the -30sC at night in the dead of winter ( Dec & Jan )
Wish i was in Sydney !!

Same weather problem here ICBM, but usually after a week or so the an improvement will come and allow for reasonably short rides. Hate to have the bikes stay down all winter, but if the temp is down in the freezer what's a person going to do? Read and do honey do's. Lot's of entertainment on the net but still does not stop cabin fever.

I left Bridgeport, Connecticut at 2100Z (GMT time) and got to St Peterburg, Florida at 2400Z this evening and it was -58C most of the way, but we were at 40,000 ft.

From a canuck in southern Alberta, roads are clear and dry, went for a ride yesterday afternoon. There is some snow in the ditches where the sun can't reach.
May have to mow my lawn again this week

Kinda hurts your feelings when you have to go into the garage with the bikes and figure out where you left the snow shovel last year. Keep hoping to throw the exercise stick away for good but know better.

Yeah, I'd love to live in Canada, but the thought of sitting inside not riding for so long turns me off...

Here in Nova Scotia we have had some great weather. I was out for a ride yesterday, +6, did 400km. They are saying this week will be warmer around 14. In the last couple of years I have been able to ride till mid December and on the odd day in January. And I usually have it back out full time after mid March. There are days that it will be nice out and I do not ride, but that is usually if there is lots of salt down and we have not had any rain to wash it away

All of you folks who have put their bikes into hibernation, have you drained the gas tank? Any other winterizing?

Virtually zero winterizing here. I fill the tanks up to the brim with fresh premium fuel, lube the chain and keep them on a battery tender. I figure they only sit for a few months, it's not like they won't be ridden for a year or two. I have never had any problems. Come spring they fire right up. Update on Alberta weather. Woke up this morning to a skiff of snow and colder temperatures. Minus 17C with windchill Minus 26C. The roads are still pretty much bare though. I am sure someone will still be out there on two wheels. I rode right up until last weekend but I think I am done now. I don't generally pull them out during the winter months, too much gravel on the road. I figure I can wait until spring.
