Insurance surprise

I got my policy premium today. It was a pleasant surprise. Full coverage $147 for 12 months...liability/collision/comp.

That's pretty cheap.

Was it a mistake?

What company (and area) are you with? Are you 150 years old?

Initially they gave me an estimate of $175per year. Then I gave them the VIN and they informed me the premium would actually be $147 annually.

I am 47 years old. I haven't had a ticket in couple years though to be fair.

I'm in Oklahoma. The insurance company is ANPAC out of Springfield, MO. They have our house and cars too. I understand they only write policies in certain states and thus the reduction in premiums because they have radically reduced their exposure to risk by avoiding states like California, Florida, and New York.

I knew there was a reason I moved to Oklahoma 25 years ago.

I've got my insurance with Geico with $250 deductible on everything and declined uninsured motorist. I'm 66 and no tickets.....annual premium is $425 which includes $10 towing.

What kind of deductibles do you have for a $147.?

Bob

My deductible is $1000. Also ALL of my property insurance is with this underwriter so I get a 25% discount.

But the point being...it is costing about the same for me to insure this $12000 Connie as it did for me to carry the same coverage/deductible on my $7000 ZRX1200.

Geico was my carrier before ANPAC. They quoted something on the order of $400 annually with $1000 deductible. When I told them I was dropping because I could get the same coverage for less than half they immediately offered a lower rate.

When I asked what it would be the lady ran the numbers and it still was wasn't as low as ANPAC. I think it was about $250. So I told them no thanks.

But what puzzles me is how they Immediately offered a lower rate. Why weren't rating me that way to begin with? I feel like Geico was yanking my chain. It figures...Geico stands for GOVERNMENT Employees Insurance Company. That's what you get anytime the government gets involved...wink wink he he.

Lastly...I did my homework with ANPAC. They are indeed a reputable company...not some fly by night outfit. And like I said before they are very selective of the states they write policies in. I was NOT kidding when I said they avoid California and Florida.

Is that full comprehensive? I did get quoted $1200 a year here and another $500 a year for third party on top of that!!! I now go through a broker $400 a year...

Yep Collision, Comprehensive and Liability. I don't recall what the exact amounts of coverage are for but they are adequate for a $12000 motorcycle.

I get the distinct impression I've "killed the witch" here. I hope they haven't made some wild eyed mistake.

However this might be a good indicator. How many of you guys insured a ZRX1200 fully? The premium for my 2005 ZRX was about the same (130 or 140) as my new Connie and the power to weight ratio is about the same. But the accident rate of the ZRX is higher than a sport touring bike. I paid that premium for 2 full years so I know it is not a bad quote.

I'm with you Bob, $250 deductible, $220 every 6 months through Farmers Insurance and my YZF600 costs me just $180 per year.

Insurance

Chez,GTRPete,
I pay $187 p/a for mine through Shannons with limited use on the GTR. I have my Busa on the same policy and pay $64 a month for both. So if you don't commute on it they are by far the cheapest. I have just turned 50 and a couple of recent speed tickets didn't worry them.

I pay $400 a year with a $500 deductible through Progressive. I thought that was a competitive quote.

I pay $250, w/ $500 deductible, $100k/$300k limits, 12 month coverage
about the same for my SV1000s. I too am 48, no tickets, loads of experience.

Take the Experienced Rider Course from the MSF, good for 10% off your insurance!!!!!

This makes sense. This is more along the lines of what I'm paying. I think they quoted me a policy of $230 yearly if I dropped the deductible to $500. I've been riding for 30 years and average about 30,000 miles annually on a bike. That had no bearing. I've never taken an MSF course...but for 10% I'll do it!

Gieco, Farmers, State Farm, AAA...all are very pricey on motorcycles. You should really check into companies that only handles motorcycles. I have been with Markel for years on my bikes...very reasonable for the same coverages. I do not have a C-14 yet but will in a few weeks (Merry Xmas to Me). I have a 2003 Honda VTX 1800 (1800 cc's) and a Honda XR650L, the below is right off my policy in front of me:

On the VTX 1800 my premium is $ 177.00 a YEAR, yes per year !

On the Honda XR650L its $ 89.00 a YEAR, yes per year !

The coverage I have for those prices are:

Bodily injury 100K / 300K
Property Damage $ 50,000
Comp and Collison with $ 1000 deductible
and they throw in $ 500.00 of free coverages for your added accesories !

Also...I am 43 years old, I have been with them for 3 years, no accidents, claims or tickets, my rates have gone down every year by a few bucks !

As a side note, I was with State Farm for 23 years prior on my cars. I bought a 2004 Corvette Z06 brand new. They wanted about 1500 a year to insure my vette alone. I laughed so hard. To the internet I went and found Wawanesa Insurance. Based in Canada but do business in US also. Long story short....I pay less for my Vette, 2003 3/4 ton 4X4 Suburban and Chrysler Concorde combined, through Wawanesa, than I did for the Suburban and Concorde alone with State Farm !!!!....about 400 less per year !!!!

Read that last line again....its very accurate and I about tripled all my coverages I had had with State Farm. Big brick & mortar insurance companies are raping our nations drivers ! Do your research...it pays.

Called ANPAC on my C-14 I acquired last night. Advised them it is for pleasure use only and that I ride my department owned duty bike back and forth to work. They quoted me as follows:

$ 1434 per year full coverage/comp/collision/liability at 100,000/300,000 with 500 deduct. 1296 if I go with 1000 deduct. Wow...must be California pricing.
Offered a 15% discount if I insure all my vehicles with them..

Now for Markel Bike-Line Insurance that I have 3 other bikes with but not my cars or homes. Currently paying $ 177 a year full coverage/comp/coll/100k/300k with them. They quoted the C-14 at $ 361 per year...full coverage/comp/coll/100k/300k and 1000 deduct. So I stayed with them of course.

So are you ready for a surprise, the cost for me to be fully covered with basic third party liability, collision and comprehensive will be $2272 a year. This cheap rate is because I get a discount of approx 43% because of no claims. The regular rate would be 4649 a year. The basic liability coverage is mandatory and costs $886 a year, collision and comp. I can look around and get at a somewhat cheaper rate.
