You CAN drill a hole in the Fob key

I have been finding it a bit of a PITA to dig the pannier key out of the fob when I wanted to open the boxes with gloves on..

And I stopped useing the ignition key for the panniers after I just put it back in the ignition and left it in the removable position a couple of times and left it there when I left the bike

So I took the one from my spare fob , drilled it

and put it on the keyring with my Givi topbox key and garage door opener.

It all works ok as there were no little RFID chips in the bit I drilled through

Good idea, I too have wondered of the longevity of the clip on the back of the hoofer doofer, having to remove the key each time I open the panniers, ie every day!

I would not expect there to be any electronics in the slip in key as it requires power for the transmitter, thus all the electronics would be in the dongle. Bagman knew this hence his mod.

New keys are easy...

I was at the local coblers yesterday getting some boots resoled and spotted a load of bike key blanks next to his key cutting machine.

He had a blank that matched the FOB key and £3.99 later I had this..

The key blank is SILCA brand with ref# KW15BP stamped on it.

It fits and works perfectly , so the one that I drilled has gone back in the spare fob indoors
