Thats bad at such low mileage and never in the rain. It is a big issue it seems with the tanks rusting, especially where its bolted onto the frame under the seat. Mine has 6000miles is always in the rain and is kept outdoors under a cover but has no rust due to the fact I've used acf50 on it from day one.
Lets know what your dealer says. I bought mine brand new 8 months ago and after 2 days of ownership the tank had to be replaced because the paint started coming off it !

Was cleaning my bike today 2 months old 4000 k on it and have noticed some rust under the seat at tank, cleaned it up using ACF50 will keep a close eye on it. Will probably take a trip back to dealer just to log the issue, bike is stored in a shed

responded
Well i spoke to my dealer, they were quite responsive, initialy they said they had'nt heard any probs with either the GTR or the ZZR,i pointed out that this forum contained a number of bikes with this issue, they are going to take pictures of the rust and report to kawasaki,i on principle dont want to use ACF50 this is a big money new motorcycle it shouldnt be showing rust anywhere, one of the selling points for me was that in the sales bling they made a point of saying that these bikes are built for the european market with lots of stainless fittings etc.so i shouldnt be seeing rust after 1000miles.

In just wanted to state that my ZX-6 is 19 years old and has I’ve looked for it no tank
corrosion whatsoever. I’ve had it for 2 years now but I can’t explain why it has none!
I had a few years back a used Ninja 250 that had it’s tank so badly corroded that I decided to sell it. I still miss it though!
Regards!

Hi Rodsct,it is wierd iv had Hondas and Yamahas, and never had paint issues, where these welds are on the tank is right where water pools under the front of the seat, but mine only gets wet when its washed so its not good that rust is appearing along the welds. The paint looks thin in that area, not sure if they dip or spray the tanks but it needs addressing by kawasaki.

My dealer just got back to me today re this issue, He has said I will be able to get the tank replaced (with the possibility of rust reoccuring) or they will get the tank professionally painted.I am a bit aprehensive about getting the tank painted myself . Not sure what to do now

Do you live near the ocean?, if not I would also be pissed at spending that kind of dosh on something that turned rusty so quickly.
