GTR 1400 top speed
Hi
First, I know we have to be carefull with high speed running, trafic, etc., but I'm sure we all have the curiousity to know what's the GTR top speed.
Yesterday, I had the chance to do it. In the motorway, without trafic, I was going around 140km/h with some friends (K1200GT, K1200LT, R1200RT, R1200RT). Jorge started to push hard with the K1200GT and I waited a few seconds, just to decide: GO or not GO!
I wanted to know if the GTR will pass easily the K1200GT or not. Of course my GTR has only 4000km and the GT is well runned, with about 20.000km. But I decided to try eheh
The K1200GT had an avantage about 300 meters, when I pushed hard, 3th, 4th, 5th, it reached 250km/h very fast, and 270km/h easily. I just had to wait about 3km to reach the GT and pass. The diference is not huge, because the GT is also very fast, mas in top speed, GTR is the KING.
We runned 220km/h-240km/h about 20km, then we pushed hard again, side by side, and the GTR reached again 280km/h, with a important advantage to the GT. There was no doubt, GTR is faster.
I reached 280km/h in 5th!!
The 6th is too long, very good for high speed averages but not to reach the maximum speed. Going about 200-220km/h at 6.000rpm is a pleasure, with a very nice confort. My bike is 100% stock, with the kawasaki's touring shield.
What's your experiences of top speed?

Hi
Sorry, I've no pictures. This was not planned.
Greko, the GT 1200 pushed hard, but the GTR is quicker, I've no doubts about it. This was clear to me and my friend Jorge.
Of course there's many factors that could influence your analysis. There's diferents ECU programs for GT 1200. My friend's GT is a 2007 model and has a 2nd repro. The original was not good, in terms of vibrations and power. With this new BMW repro the bike is faster, it reaches 260km/h in 6 gear, near the red-line. But, in fifth, around 220km/h, the GTR is faster getting 260km/h and still pulls to 280km/h. You will never reach 280 in a GT!
In terms of general performance, GT is very good, as well the FJR (I had one). FJR was slower above 240km/h, has the GT in fact.
But for me this was just an experience. Much more important than the top speed is how easy and relax the GTR goes at 160, 180, 200. It goes very stable, at low rev, OD - 6th gear, with a good fuel average and nice confort.
For example, at 4.000rpm, the K1200Gt goes at 105km/h and the GTR goes at 140km/h. Even in 5th gear, the GTR goes at 120km/h. This is something that is very important for me. I love this OD. But there's many guys that love the 6th of GT or de 5th of FJR. For me, going 160km/h in the highway at 6000rpm is like killing a fly with a missile.
regards,

Hey Pedro - I finally got delivery of my new GTR. Right out of the crate virgin, Diablo Black with the blue metalflake paint. Everybody say WOW ! So we put her together, charged the battery, start-up the first time, instant, quiet. (not like my Harley).
Throw my leg over and instant bond, we go. 1000km at 4000rpm limit, nice break-in on mountain roads.
Change the oils and filter, now rev limit is 6000rpm - Whooweee! Gotta be careful and learn to fly right. I haven't had good long highway experience yet, but soon.
What is your experience with max rev limit? The DFI computer is set at what, you think?
If it could reach 8-10,000rpm it would be another twilight zone I think.
My Harley is set at 6200rpm 1600cc air cool V-twin. Different species. Like a duck and a chicken.....both birds right?...........the difference is one can really FLY!!!
I can't figure how to post photos on this site so will send to your email. Borneo rider.
John
